My husband wants to go to an evening mba program, while he continues to work full time. The program lasts 18mo, and costs about $50K for the entire program. We are supposed to pay in 6 installments. We have more than enough equity in our home to take out a line of credit. I'm wondering which is a better choice, doing a federal student loan, or using a line of credit. I'm thinking that the line of credit is a good choice, because we don't have to borrow all the money at once. Drawing from it every 3 months, for 18 months. We hope to pay the loan off within 5-7 years after graduation.

I don't have any experience with federal student loans, so would like to know how the two options compare.

thanks.

I'd like to go back to college - but dag gone college is expensive! How on earth can you afford to go back to college as an adult w/out going into debt with student loans? I've tried to find scholarships but it's hard. And the FAFSA does nothing for me - they don't consider me "poor enough" to get any help. And heck I could probably pay for college if I had no other expenses FAFSA! Anyway, are there any people here who have gone back to college as an adult? How did you do it financially?

i do not, nor have i ever, used credit cards. i do not use a bank. my husband has been out of work since november. he can not find anything that would support us and our two small children. we have hospital bills, outstanding power bills, cable bills, we have almost 16,000 worth of his student loans for college that he didn't ge to finish b/c he ran out of money and had to drop out. i got 2 tickets last month for not having insurance or a tag (it was at a mandatory checkpoint). i cant count all of our bills. he had a great job lined up to start on monday and we got a letter in the mail yesterday saying that his job offer has been withdrawn b/c of a bad driving record (2 tickets in the last 4 years). our tax refund, which would have been almost 6000 was taken from us by the dept. of education for his student loan. it would have gotten us back on our feet until he got a job. what do we do? i'm so depressed. we need help. we have food stamps and F.A. $245 per month - any advice would help

I would like to pay off the entire loan at once, but its a large amount. I have been making monthly payments for the past 9 years and interest is still being added to the original loan amount. My total loan is now $80,000. Is there anyway I can negotiate with sallie mae to see if they except $40,000 or $ 50,000 as full and final payment?

If we apply for private student loans, do we have to document every little expense and then send it back to them to verify it?

I've contacted a number of places already and they just say "can be used for school related expenses" but not answering my question. Need it as clear as possible

Thanks for answering

My son is finishing a 2 year community college and is transferring to a State School for Teaching . His mother passed away at the age of 10, I've been saving his social security check since. I have approx. 70k, plus 45k in stocks, The question... Is it worth my time to fill out the FASFA sheet?? Do I have any other options to relieve the financial burden on me. It seem like scholarships always seem to be on a need basis. Thank
