My credit isn't good enough to get a student loan on my own so I am getting a co-signer. After I get the loan, can I consolidate it with a different company under my name alone to relieve my co-signer of any responsibility?

My brother pre-paid USD 9.000 so that his daughter can study in any Florida State university. If she goes elsewhere, the money is refunded.

I'd like to do something simillar, but I understand this type of plan is available only to state residents and we don't live in the US (and are citizens of other countries - namely Brazil and Paraguay).

Still, I would like to pave the way to send my kids to college in the US. Maybe there is another type of pre-payment plan available? Or should I write directly to the colleges asking for information?

Thanks in advance!
Luiz

I am a mother of 2 who just quit my job to go back to college after 10 years of employment. Are there really grants and scholarships other than what you would normally know about when applying for aid? What about grants(not loans ... as a parent i am already up to my eyeballs in debt and am trying to defray as much of the expense as possible) grants or money to pay my bills while I am in school...? Or is all this "free money, grants etc." advertising i hear everywhere a scam? I could sure use the help if it is available. I am a 35 yr old white female and i intend to study in the areas of geology and archeaology and be teacher certified... if this helps in your answer. thanks for your answers!

I want to find some money to help pay off my enormous undergrad bill. I'm in grad school now, but if i get scholarships i don't think my company will pay for my schooling. I'd rather have my job pay for grad school and apply for scholarships to help with the bill i already have. is anything like that possible?

I have had an unfortunate experiance with CREDIT as some of probably have and my day to day 2job life is taking more out of me than i can give. ive tried the 2 job 3 job thing and it really isnt making the debt that i am in any more managable. Im wondering if there are any options that i have other that to file to be bankrupt, have a child to be qualified to recieve government money which would completly go against my morals,as well as mybe prosituting, which also is completly against my morals and values. I know that probably also sound very irrational but really what else can i do?? I was think a credit card but than which compant do i trust that wont just put me further in debt. My family and I recently attented a workshop for this program. They said that they would help us through the college process and everything. I was just wondering ... is it a scam company because I hear the services they offer are available for free just by going to counselor's office. Please any info. on this company is greatly appreciated because my family did buy the plan which was like 3,000 dollars and I really don't want to throw my parents money like that.

So I'm in a community college and working full time and getting nowhere. I'm up to my neck in debt (car payment, bills) which is making my schooling suffer because I take on extra hours instead of studying just to get by. Not to mention community colleges aren't very motivating. I have visited friends who live on campus at schools and don't work, I think thats what I need so I can focus. I know I wont be able to make my car payment if I move to some school dorm. By the way I'm only 20. Please help! I need to get on with my life!

I have paid very little and now find that I got my degree to early in 96 and after oct 98 teachers can apply for loan foregiveness depending on where they work. I work in a low income school and do not make much to cover my living expenses. I need to find something fast. NELNEt is not helping and do not tell you anything until it is to late.
