Would it be better for me to own their stocks in my name before they are ready to go to college? They are preteens at the moment so it will be quite some time from now. So my questions are: should I convert (and is that legal) their minor accounts (stock) to my name to avoid it being held against them when they apply for aide for college? And when should I convert them over (wait until they are in High School or do it now???)? Thanks!

Want to go to school to become an RN. Heard that their are Grants available from the Fed. Gov't to help with school costs. But everyone I talk with says Grants are a farce. Really need to find a way to get some help. Financial Aide is a joke. Need some free money if there is such a thing.

How do people get an expected family contribution of zero? Assuming someone in their family works full time for at least minimum wage, shouldn't their efc be at least a dollar?

I understand some disabled individuals cannot work, but what about everyone else who gets pell grants? A friend's (who is considered independant) adjusted gross income was less than $5000 but her EFC was more than $2000!

How can I find scholarships that are actually "legit" ? Don't tell me to use fastweb.com. They've never gave money to me when I've applied to any of the scholarships on there.

Recently, I have been thinking about living on campus and I heard that this college may require freshmen to do so. I was wondering if by putting that I was living at home, i am expected to get less money than if I put living on campus?

I went to a technical college about 8 yrs ago. I went the first semester and dropped out half way due to contunious bomb threats ( yes, we have to leave the school and walk across the block almost everyday for 2 weeks straight), alot of students dropped the semester because of this. I went back the next semester and dropped out towards the beginning due to an illness my child had at the time. I was young and didnt really think too much of it. Well, now I owe $10,000 which I cant file bankruptcy on and its on my credit. I never recieved ANY college credits for either semester and I really cannot afford to pay this back. Is there anything I can do about this? Will it ever come off
