this isn't that clear really? Alot of questions for this study? if you want it accurate ask more Questions.or add to this one.

honestly I think they should have a job like I did. And work a part time job to make money.. I feel a college freshman should have his or her own job too. my parents paid for my schooling. I would pay for the schooling. No allowance sorry. And so should a 17 yr old in high school. Its the least you can do to help out the parents and do chores.I really never got much money. But my parents helped and paid for half my car.to teach me reasposibility. I also had a job and was reasponsible.

What would the allowance be for? chores or money paying for school?

Who is paying for the college tuition? kid or parents? this might make a difference? things to think about for your study as there can be so many differences in opinions.

17 is a high school age not college..did you want to compare or contrast these ages? and how much they get?.. Can you add to this question? explain or word it better. It may get better results..

I'd say $200/month (or $50/week)...I'm a college freshman myself and I think that's pretty reasonable! Although a have a part-time job, the extra 50 bucks a week would be very helpful, but not extremely necessary...

But that also depends on geographical location and on the person (whether he or she is a big spender or not).

P.S.: I don't get any from my parents...just for the record! And that's helped me become more responsible and better at managing my budget! :-)

I dont think that a freshmen in college should be receiving money from their parents they should be working to earn money for themselfs, they have to detach from their mothers nipple

I give my high school-er 100 per week....so I'd say 150 per week at least.

I do not know how any of you expect a child to get into a good college, or graduate from college with decent grades and work at the same time. Of course my child is Valedictorian and going to a Major University Pre-Med. Maybe my expectations are different than yours.

100 dollars per week barely pays for her essentials.

I think they should begin working at this point. If parents are paying for college, the kid can work for spending money.
