I'm fairly sure I'll get financial aid, my mom makes less than $15,000 a year, and there are six of us children. I have a part time job, but it's a pretty pathetic amount too. My dad is in prison, and my stepdad (father of all my siblings) took off and sends maybe $50 every two months (of the 57,000 he owes). So I'm thinking I'll get some kind of help.

I also have had a bf for three years, and we're looking to move in together, but we both want to go to school. He's been on his own since he was 16 (he's 21 now) because his stepdad was abusive, and he makes maybe about the same as my mom. He's living with his older brother for now.

If we both apply for financial aid, what are the chances of us getting it, and how much will it cover? If a college has dorms for married couples (or, engaged, another question...do you have to be married for those dorms?) will financial aid cover that, and if not how much does it cost? I'd love to be able to live on campus, I've always wanted to.

so, i received this call from the CA and he told me that I owed 17,332.00 for student loans from 2006 and that they were going to take my taxes (which I already got back, hah!) my problem with this is that my loans all originated in 2001 (when i started college) and they were in my mothers name. i called her to ask her if she knew anything about it, and she said that even if they WERE my loans, that there was no way they would equal 17,000 (even with added fees).... i called the CA back and asked for them to find out if they were my original loans, and when they had been put into my name (rather than my mothers). she told me that she still pays on my student loans monthly.... they have no idea and claim that i must have "other student loans i didn't know about". has anyone been through this?

My SAR states that my expected family contribution should be $22,000. The university I am going to only costs about $16,500 with room, board and tuition (It's a state school). What do I do now? Does that mean that I will not receive any money in aid?

I have used multiple financial aid calculators, including ones from valid and reliable sites, like www.collegeboard.com. The expected family contribution on my FAFSA student aid report is much much higher than the calculated value...by about 5,000.

My family also makes a lot less than certain friends of mine, and their expected contribution was way less. We have nothing saved up, no investments...yet the amount we're expected to pay is almost a third of my parents' total yearly income.

Maybe we made a mistake. Should we have entered in our total taxable income instead of the gross income number?

I'm not applying as independent seeing as how I am only 19, but other people have told me its possible to get all the loans under my name. Also I don't know whether or not I'll qualify for any grants or not, but either way I'd like whatever loans I get to be given directly to me because i really don't want to strain my parents anymore.

I got my financial aid award recently. They are giving me $22,460.00 yearly. The school is $25k a year (tution) does this mean i have to come up with $2540 yearly ro must i pay for the room and board, meal plan, etc.

In the letter is also stated "Your Estimated Cost of Attendance includes tutition, fees, room and board charges as well as an allowance for books and supplies, transportation, personal and other expenses." What does that mean?

He's currently getting a dependency override for the 06-07 year. He has had to pay cash both of these semesters and I'm wondering if he'll get the back pay for last semester, or just this semester or none at all (since he has already paid).

I'm thinking of getting a £1000 loan to pay for 2 months of my rent. I recently lost my job, had nothing saved and its not all downhill. I've applied for 'Housing Benefit' and 'JSA', but clerical delays there meant it will take up to 21 days - rent's due on the 1st April (or rather, it was due 1st March). I've read getting the loan is a quick fix, but what other option is there? I'm sure if I find work during April I can begin paying back the loan over a one year stretch. What about those 100% intrest free loans - they any good?

I am so worried about my student loan debt that it keeps me up at night. I have an appointment with Consumer Credit Counsellors here in BC. I am only working fulltime and I withdrew from a class. I hope I am not in serious trouble for withdrawing as I was failing the class. I guess I will have to talk to them tomorrow. Hopefully, everything will be worked out.
