You know something about how insults show ignorance or they show that you have no legitimate argument. Isn't there a saying?

there is a problem.

I applied for an Honours Degree with Primary teaching and my core subject was meant to be English. But because English was a very popular subject for candidates to choose, i had to pick an alternative subject as well as the English; i chose Maths.

After giving my interview and doing compulsory English and Maths tests, and a face to face interview, i got a letter with a conditional offer.

But it doesnt seem to state which subject im meant to be teaching....English or Maths?
It does say something like "During the interview process it was noted that you would benefit from developing your knowledge and understanding of mathematics..."

Does this mean i have got the Maths course, or does that mean i did bad in the maths test and i just need to brush up?

I'm embarrassed that I don't know the answer to this question, but I'm hoping to get some help here. I teach research, and I'm noticing that oftentimes facts, statistics, and quotations are used in non-academic essays (e.g., editorials, magazines, etc.), and these are rarely cited. This is in sharp contrast to academic essays where such information MUST be cited. Can anyone tell me why it is not standard practice to cite non-academic essays?

"She is your mirror, shinning back at you with a world of possibilities. She is your witness, who sees you at your worst and best, and loves you anyway. She is your partner in crime, your midnight companion, someone who knows when you are smiling, even in the dark. She is your teacher, your defense attorney, your personal press agent, even your shrink. Some days, she's the reason you wish you were an only child." What does shrink mean?

I notice that everyday essays (e.g., editorials), often do not cite facts and/or statistics that are used to support a position. Why is this accepted for such essays but not accepted for academic essays?
