I'm in highschool, and lately i've been thinking about what I want to major in in college.I make really good grades,do alot in my school and i have a wide variety of interests. So I came up with a few majors:Musical Theatre, Mathmatics, Computer Science, Music, or Media Studies. I told my family that I wanted to go to WIU and major in musical theatre, but i was unsure. I really love musical theatre it incorporates three things im really good at. I have done alot of things that involve singing and acting in highschool like chorus, speech, the musicals, and lots more. Everyone knows me as a person who is really good at theatre and thats what I see me when I look at myself. My parents really didnt agree, they really want me to do the whole mathmatics computer science thing because it will problly insure me a job and pay more. And though i really love math and am very good at it, I love theatre more, most of my family didnt go to college and we arnt very wealthy. I'm very unsure help me.

I am thinking of getting my Bachelors degree online. Is there anyone out there who has done this or tried distance education. How did you like it, were there any drawbacks for you and any other info would be of much help. I am looking to do this soon and I have researched it throughly, but an outside opinion from others who have done it would help me out alot.

“Prior to the late 1970s, instructional methods and material for adults learning English as a Second Language assumed the presence of literacy in a first language”.This was a culturally biased point of view which ignored the existence of communication without literacy.A more diverse immigrant population and a better understanding of non-English speaking cultures, especially those where literacy is not a factor, have brought a better understanding and awareness to this issue.Burt and Peyton describe pre-literate learners as those who “…have had little or no experience with written text”.This lack of experience can be directly related to the learner’s cultural background. Many learners may come “From cultures where literacy is uncommon in everyday life because the language is not written, has only recently been written or is being developed”. This may expelain why the pre-literate learners, which compose majority or the level 1 learners in the ESL program, are one of the most challenging

I'm thinking about going to community college rather than applying to be a freshman in a 4-year-college. It's not because my high school record is bad (it is pretty strong, in fact), but because of financial problems I might have if I go to a 4-year college for all four years.

If I studied at a community college for 2 years before transferring into a 4-year college, will it look bad? Could I transfer to anywhere, even a top-tier school, as long as my record stays great? Is it more difficult to get admitted as a transfer student? is the process the same as it is for prospective freshmen?
