10% goes to God first...
you can choose to give more, but 10% is the standard

the old covenant being set aside was the old method of animal sacrifice being set aside, but tithing still remains

First of all, step back and realize that you're basically saying that "Everything Jewish is wrong and everything Christian is right." I don't speak with God every day, but I'm pretty sure that God doesn't give all the good info to Christians.

Second, are you trying to get out of tithing? Am I correct in that you don't want to give 10%? Are you so pious that you can cite passages like the Hebrews passage (actually, misquote it), but not pious enough to do 10%?

Third, if you are a Christian, you believe that everything you have it God's. That is a basic Christian belief. Be glad that God only asks for 10% of your money!!!

IMHO, that's the MINIMUM you should be giving -- after all, Jesus wants you to give away everything you have and follow him. It's easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of Heaven. Since it's probably not practical for you to give away everything you've got, you can at least stick to what the Old Covenant required: 10% tithing...

10% is just a minimum or a guidline.

If you're rich and have no real need of money, then tithe.

I believe, not sure here, that according to the New Testament, that you may give however much to choose to, but obviously, if you aren't using the money, you should give it away.
