I'm in high school, and so far, all we've learned about is how to not have sex. I haven't learned anything about sex. We haven't learned about protection (other than "it's not as safe as abstinence"). All we've learned about is being abstinent and how dangerous STD's are. What about us that want to have sex? You're just making it unsafe, since we're not educated about it.

What about you? How long ago were you in high school? This is mainly focused on the U.S. schools that were built on puritan beliefs.

I have roughly 6 months to do a project which while challenging me and using new techniques and skills is still achievable in a small workshop. I can use any resistant material (e.g. Wood, metal, plastic etc) or a combination. The item that I make cannot be too large as my school has limited storage space. Any suggestions that you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

Can anyone here, honestly, relate to how High School is portrayed in the movies & tv shows?

I live in NYC, so maybe its because we're such a diverse city and we're more accepting of people, but I, for one, can not relate to how high school is in the movies. For the most part, everyone got along and there weren't really any "cliques" I mean sure you had the people you hung out with daily but you can roam freely from friend to friend/group to group and people didn't just tease one particular person; we all made fun of one another and no one took it seriously. And sex was never a big deal like how it's made out to be in the movies/shows.

Does this portrayal of HS happen in suburbia, small towns, anywhere?

I'm starting in community college for my undergraduate degree and i was wondering if people like it. I feel that it is a significant downgrade for me and so do others. I told them, with my financial situation in mind, that it would behoove me to go there so i can save about 40,000 or even more. I want to know how the atmosphere is like and how people intereact with each other. Also could you tell me if we are allowed to use laptops during class to take notes in lieu of paper and pen. I feel that my handwriting is barely ledgible when i go back to review so i just don't study it. Also i type faster than i write. If it is allowable, could you tell me if it would be awkward to have an out as opposed to everyone in the classroom using loose leaf paper and pen? Also if you could tell me how to make the best out of my surroundings while in CC, that would be cool, what i mean by best is how to distinguish myself for prospective candidates at top-tier private schools.
