Can anyone here, honestly, relate to how High School is portrayed in the movies & tv shows?

I live in NYC, so maybe its because we're such a diverse city and we're more accepting of people, but I, for one, can not relate to how high school is in the movies. For the most part, everyone got along and there weren't really any "cliques" I mean sure you had the people you hung out with daily but you can roam freely from friend to friend/group to group and people didn't just tease one particular person; we all made fun of one another and no one took it seriously. And sex was never a big deal like how it's made out to be in the movies/shows.

Does this portrayal of HS happen in suburbia, small towns, anywhere?

also there was never any popularity in my school, sure you had people that were more well known but everyone associated with one another and I feel like teen movies don't portray high school accurately because no movie or show has ever shown high school differently than what they always show it as

I was born and raised in California, and yes sometimes some of the things you see in movies are a little over the top but for the most of it yeah the schools i went to were like that, there was the prep group, and there was the bad kids group, nerd groups, ect. but i was friends with lots of different people from these groups.
I see it a little bit in my 8th graders school, we now live in South Carolina for about 2 yrs now.

There are kinda...cliques at my school, but it's not like the warring teams that you see portrayed in High School movies. I have never related to a single one of them, and I live in a nice town near LA.

I have never experienced high school like the schools in the movies...but maybe it's just me.

I don't agree with your point. The movies I have seen show cliques and "in" crowds in them. The reason that you may not quite notice this is because Hollywood usually chooses just one clique to focus on.

Yeah, I never understood that either. Nobody ever got swirlies in my high school, or dumped in the trashcan.
