Try books by Tamara Pierce? The Protector of the Small series is good. And if you're looking for a challenge try Oliver Twist, anything by Shakespeare and Jane Eyre. Also the Charlie Bone books arent that magicky like Harry Potter, and u might like them.

And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie
Life of Pi (sorry can't remember the author)

What about some of the classics that you may have to read in highschool like To Kill a Mockingbird, Catcher in the Rye, Lord of the Flies, or some Margaret Atwood (author)

Read "As a Man Thinketh",by James Allen. You can buy it for around $6.00. Also, you can download it from the Internet for free. It is not an action or adventure book,BUT it is the best book I ever read. I wish I knew about it when I was in Jr High. It will take you about 1 1/2 hours to read.

Is this for school or for fun? Here are some suggestions if you need the book for school:

Johnny Tremain
To Kill a Mockingbird

My fave book Memoirs of a Geisha but ask yr mom first.

Books my daughter had to read for school that she did not enjoy much:

Hatchet
Raptor Red

Most Newbury Award books are kind of bloody or deal with death.

Alex Rider series is a really good one..... Stormbreaker,Point Blank, Skeleton Key, Eagle Strike....Those books are by Anthony Horowitz. Let's see there is Zach's Lie and that was written by Roland Smith. He writes really good books so you might want to check those out....Avi is another good author, and Tamara Pierce. She is really good I like her. There are others I just can't think of them so I will get back to you...okay?
