Biases and generalizations are a strong part of our society. It is too easy to hold opinions that stereo-type others. "Home-schooling" means something different to every person that will answer the question. What is your answer?

I am a mother to 4 home-educated students. 2 are now adults and 2 will soon be adults. If you know them personally then I'm sure you can tell me what you know. But if you don't know them please don't give them labels such as: Misfit, Social outcast, Ignorant; Sheltered; Troubled; etc.... I know hundreds and maybe even thousands of home-taught students that do not fit into the demeaning categories imposed on them by others that don't know the truth.

My home-educated children and grandchildren are well liked in our community. Our extended family, friends and even strangers comment often about how they are well mannered and intelligent. This is the same for all of the families that I personally know that home-teach.

Sometimes when I write some text on paper and when I read it again, there's usually 1 or 2 words missing. It's like my brain is thinking so fast that it jumps words and doesn't write them.
Does this have a name? This "eating" of words?

Hello I spent weeks writing and editing my succinct statement I am writing for admission into a doctoral program.
What is the format? Do the paragraphs need to be indented double spaced, or do the paragraphs stay flush left with a double space between paragraphs?
This is a statement of my personal objectives and how they will be furthered by graduate study.

Please answer only if you have experience! Thank you

I am at the point in my college career where I have to make this decision... I am currently a Childhood Ed. major with a concentration in Lang. and Cognition. From there I could go on to get my masters in literacy. OR should I become a speech pathology major now and do a concentration in education? Which job has more openings now (I live on Long Island) and which has more room for advancement? Any advice will help! Thanks!

I never liked lectures because they didn't include a typed copy of the lecturer's lecture. The idea of having to try to write down a note about a point I thought might be important, and doing so while hoping not to miss another point that might be uttered while I was writing my note about an earlier point was torture for me. I really couldn't understand the value of that approach to teaching.

Today, I read an article in WebMD about multitasking having a negative effect on learning. With that now known, is their hope that lecturers will finally stop torturing their students?

Incidentally, the article on WebMD indicated that when learning took place in an environment free of distractions, the student's learning was the result of activity in one part of the brain, and when multitasking, the learning was the result of activity in a different part of the brain. Subsequent tests revealed multitasking had a negative effect on retention.
