Start by looking at the University of [insert your state here]. I'm in Northern California so a school like University of California at Berkely (UCB) or UC Davis, UC Santa Cruz are natural choices to look at first. Public universities will be much less expensive than private schools like Stanford or University of San Francisco. However, you should do the best in H.S. that you can. Then apply to as many schools as you can send applications to and make your decision from those that accept you -- public or private.
Most universities will have life science majors including biology, physiology, organic chemistry, even pre-medicine among others. Those undergraduate degrees will prepare you for the post graduate course work of medical school which is required to become an obstetrician.
At this point, you should focus on doing your best in school and becoming a well rounded, involved student.

You probably won't find that as a major. I think many pre-med students start out as a biology major at an undergraduate university and then follow that with medical school, where I believe you can specialize in the field of medicine that interests you most. But for right now I'd focus on looking at undergraduate colleges with a good bio/pre-med program.

If you wish to get into a medical profession there are many science oriented schools which you will want to explore. Be careful of a few things though.
Don't commit to a medical major too early. It is very easy to change in to a med major later. Also if you say major in premed and decide you don't like it, it reflects poorly on some people who may consult your college records later. You don't want to seem like a waffler. Also you get a broad spectrum of courses by choosing a non-med major to begin with.
People will speak otherwise often, but large universities though slightly impersonal, offer a large variety of courses that you should take advantage of. You may find that you really like chemistry or politics. Go to a school where if you do decided to go a different direction you have that option. If you go to a liberal arts school and then decide you really like science, well you are out of luck.

Try to pick a college that is not too far away from home and do research on the program that you wish to enter before enrolling. A good campus visit is always important. Do good in high school because that will affect what kind of college you can go to. I know you may not want to start at a community college to obtain an obstetrics degree so buckle down now. And do good on your ACT and colleges will be contacting you.

First, where do you live? You want to find something in your state, because out of state tuition is insane. Also, talk to your school advisor. He/she can help you find what you need and help with getting scholarships. As far as obstetrician goes, that would be pre-med school which is a fairly common school at most colleges. There are tons of scholarships out there. Just start applying as soon as you can. Good luck!

Well, good for you for starting early. An obstetrician is a medical doctor, so you will need to go to medical school AFTER completing 4 years of college. I would find a college with a good biology department and take lots of science and math classes to prepare for medical school. Once in medical school, you will be able to decide on your area of specialty. Then you will need to intern and do a residency in that area. Good luck!

My biggest and best advice: go to a college that gives you a wide variety of things to study. Your plans will more than likely change... for example, the college of business at a university is probably a good thing to take into consideration. Don't pick a university that has a ridiculously competitive college of business. I wish I hadn't... and don't major in anything that falls into the college of liberal arts unless you are sure you want to go to grad school. Get a technical, medical or business degree.
Keep your options OPEN!

For you to start thinking now about your future college is a very good idea. Your college boards will be next year or in 12th grade and you'll need ot prepare for them.
However to be an obgyn, you'll need to start with a bachelors in science. So you'll need to be taking advanced classes in sciences, maths, physics, chemistry for starters. Sneak in some languages too if you can as being bilingual will be helpful in treating patients later on.
Your guidance office in high school should be able to direct you to colleges and universities which may offer scholarships and bursaries for women wanting to study medicine, check those out. Good luck there Miss Thang .

You need to start out in a pre-med program then go to graduate school and get your M.D. then you further specialize in obstetrician. It is a total of about 8 - 9 years of college. Check out collegeboard.com for information on schools and also hints for taking the SAT (in 11th grade). Good luck!

Any place that has pre-med courses should be fine... you'll need Anatomy, Biology, Chemistry... (hmm- just noticed that's ABC- cool!)
Talk to a school counselor at your high school- they'll have lists of schools, what departments they specialize in, prices, etc. They'll also know where to look for scholarships!! (Yeah- free money!! Get a good one and your parents will LOVE you!)
Go where you want for your generals (just make sure your credits are transferable).
Talk to a counselor at your chosen university to get advice on classes. Be sure that you tell them your plans to become an OB.
Good Luck!
