Education & Reference - 10 July 2006

My husband has a very hard time reading and is very slow at it. But he also can not seem to comprehend what he has read. He is very intelligent, he was just never really taught to read while in school. He has always learned by doing. Now for a new job, he must read, learn and take tests. Can anyone help us?

I give my students homework packets due on Friday. Usually, if a student was absent, they get the same number of days they were out to turn in their homework. It's starting to get hard to keep track of who owes what - when. So now I'm thinking of just having absent students turn in their homework by the first Friday they are back. I'm curious about what other teachers do. Thanks in advance! =)

I am actually afraid if people like the ones on this site will run our world in the future. The fact it that they won't. We will be a third rate power because the educated people are now mostly from other countries.

Why is it not considered racist to deny white American's access to most scholarships? To do this is to believe that white's are not equally deserving of the right to an education.

I offer a scholarship ( http://www.daylon.com/scholarship ) and I'm willing to bet somebody would complain if I were to add being white as a requirement for being awarded.

Does anybody else have a problem with race being considered when deciding scholarship eligibility?
