I took Spanish at school just last semester, and it's called a quinceanera (keen se a naira - that's how you say it). It's when a person turns 15, and it signifies them becoming an adult. It's just as important as turning 16, 18, or 21 here in the U.S.

Oh, I know a girl that just had hers. Her Father like rented out this huge parking lot and they closed off part of the road, then had all these fun things that people could do and she like had a dance she along with one of the show choirs at school did. It was pretty cool, but still juvenile.

my spanish is a little rusty, but quinceaños is fifteenth birthday i think. not sure if theres a more specific word for a girls 15th.

"Quinceañera" is the girl turning 15
"fiesta de quince" is the bday party, though it's some called it "Quinceañero"
