Why is it not considered racist to deny white American's access to most scholarships? To do this is to believe that white's are not equally deserving of the right to an education.

I offer a scholarship ( http://www.daylon.com/scholarship ) and I'm willing to bet somebody would complain if I were to add being white as a requirement for being awarded.

Does anybody else have a problem with race being considered when deciding scholarship eligibility?

You have to consider who put up the money for the scholarship. If I went the NAACP and applied for a scholarship and wasn't African American I don't think I get it. The NAACP members put the money together for the advancement of African Americans. It would only be a problem if the government itself was promoting scholarships based on race; however, since most scholarships are done by private charities for their own causes it not a problem. The government uses economic reasons to give scholarships out, which is more equitable than race. As long as it's a private charity then it's fine; however, there are white scholarships, you just have to look. My friend applied for a got a Portuguese scholarship.

Most definitely, I have thought that for years. I have experience in higher ed admin and saw my situation over and over again.

My background should qualify me for something.. NOT.... I had a nontraditional education, I had poor grades all though school, low income family, family problems, left home when i was 15. I graduated when I was 19 from an adult high school, I then returned home and I was not eligible for anything!! They even counted my mothers income and her "financial contribution" She made pretty good money but she said her contribution was not charging me to live with her.
I stated this to FASFA, THEY DON"T CARE ABOUT CIRCUMSTANCES!

So, why can't we start a program for disadvantage white students that fall through the cracks????

It is racist, but then minorities always play the race/creed card to tell the world they are being discriminated against. In your country the USA you have every freedom, but you won't be free until everyone respects everyone else as a human being not by colour or creed.
