I retired in Thailand ,took back with me is LCD Sony tv [NTSC] which I connected to a cable box [PAL]from TRUE in Thailand. I got the poor picture with no color . I contacted SONY who sent tech to check out and told me to buy a costly converter box. Since I want to buy PAL dvd player in Thailand to view Thai dvd I wonder if I buy the dvd recorder with pal tuner and then I a/v connect cable from cable box to dvd recorder then from recorder to my tv, will it work?

I have recently cancelled my sallelite service which is in all digital. My service went from being $40 to almost $60 in a few short months. I have decided to get basic cable only which is only $35. In 2009 what will happen if I don't have an HDTV and do not rent the digital box? It will 10.50 per box. I hear they have digital converter boxes but there is not a firm price on those yet. The government is offering $40 coupons but that must mean the boxes are probably around $100. I heard they were going to be about $200? I need some good web sites on this. I am trying to figure how does this make my life better and how will it save me money? (or will it cost me more money?)

The sound on my hdtv for hd channels has always been working, but now it doesn't. It works perfectly for regular channels though. The sound for hd channels only works when its coming from my av receiver. Anyone know how to fix this? thanks

When watching freeview (digital TV) I can sometimes see the shadow of a different program on a different channel along with the program I am watching. I have searched on-line to try and find an answer but cannot find an applicable one, most say that the signal strength might be low (it is not, it is very strong), or that this problem is not possible with freeview.

OK,
Now I never really thought of buying a plasma. Because of the limited life span, etc...
But I was in best buy. And I say. The vizio plazma's seem really nice. Cheap. And better picture than LCD. Even Panasonic or sony LCD.

Any thoughts?

My dad wants to by the top of the line hdtv. He doesn't care about the price at all. I just want to help him pick the right one. He wants no other tv to beat his. I was looking at a Sony 60" dlp. I really like Sony, and I believe it will be the right brand, since Sony is usually far beyond any other company. I need the right tv though.

The appt I live is in a bit of a valley and we've never been able to get a good tv signal using rabbit ears. I was thinking of trying a HDTV box and seeing if the digital signal works... Is it worth my time, or do you think it would be a waste of money? We pay 4.99 a month for DirecTV's local channels only, and don't really need any bigger package, but it would be nice to get HDTV.

Hi,
Are there any free TV programs transmitted over-the-air in USA? I mean, If I just buy a TV without having subscription to any cable channels provider or for that matter any MVPD(Multichannel Video Programming Distributor), can I still watch some programs legitimately??

Like in India, they transmit Doordarshan channel for free over-the-air..

Thanks

I have Mitsubishi VS-60111 tv that says it is HD Upgradable. I don't know what it means. But it is supposed to be able to display 1080i.

I have regular charter cable service. The rep told me if I want HD signal I have to pay $10 amonth.

Can I buy a device from the market to enable my TV to receive the HD signal without paying $10 amonth?

Ok just purchased a 50" Plasma TV screem , looks great in my room and ace technology but time to seperate the facts and myths

1) I hear you have to refill the gas, True or False since some people argue gas can only burn out so its false

2) Plasmas have about 60,000 hrs of lifespan (27yrs of 6hrs a day use) or 7 yrs of continuous 24hr a day use (Which is probably your adverage TV lifespan any how

3) Looking at "How stuff works" website it uses protons and a reaction with the gas to generate light, so would that be what needs refilling, as any chemical reaction wears off

4) How much is it to refill if it needs refilling, i was lucky and got my tv for £850 reduced from £1150 at curries Digital

5) Please provide website links to factual information otherwise your view will be ignored since it may just be your opinion and not a fact (Therefore prolonging a myth)

Thanks

I have a 32" Vizio and my time setting is about 7 hours off. This is what Vizio's website says:

The date, time, and guide information is all determined by the signal source. Its intended to display information being sent to the television by your over the air digital broadcast by antenna (DTV). If it is incorrect on your television it has more to do with your signal that the television, since it only shows what information it gets. It wont work with direct cable from the wall it has to be an antenna signal. If its not getting that information at all it will generally display random information incorrect information.

Is there any way to change it?

I have a Hitachi HD Tv from a few years back. It has component and DVI.

I know that Component does not work for HD DVD players, but does anyone know if their has been any upgrades to allow HDMI to DVI cables to work? I had heard that due to copyright the HDMI to DVI cables originally only allowed 480 playback. Has that changed?

I have a budget of £500 and want a good quality, branded 32" television that is HD ready and has built in Freeview.

After advice on which brands/models to go for and which are best avoided. Also any technical things I should look for or avoid (I WILL be playing games consoles on it!)

Also if you know any reputable retailers that offer good value...

Not asking too much lol :)

Thanks
