if so are most people using HD source for their lcd or plasma tv's.

A recent survey says that about 19% of the households in the US have HDTV.

However, the number 1 reason people return their HDTV (about 20 % last summer) was because they did not know they needed a HD source. They brought the TV home, plugged in the cable (carrying the old Standard Def video) and were shocked that the new TV looked worse than the old one.

So a lot of people dont have HD sources yet.

Yes it is

However it is to be remembered that the Americans had to put up with the NTSC system 525line /60Hz (480i)

as apposed to the European PAL 625/50Hz (576i) or The French SECAM system

So HD is a vast improvement in the NTSC country's
