My dad wants to by the top of the line hdtv. He doesn't care about the price at all. I just want to help him pick the right one. He wants no other tv to beat his. I was looking at a Sony 60" dlp. I really like Sony, and I believe it will be the right brand, since Sony is usually far beyond any other company. I need the right tv though.

SONY does not SELL DLP TV sets....MITSUBISHI DOES....

They are the BEST DLP units you can buy...and they cannot BURN an image into the Display!

Sony makes LCD and SXRD (LCOS) TV sets....they are the BEST in that category, but I have seen LCD projectors and SXRD projectors get a BURNED IMAGE in them, so if you PAUSE games or watch too much MSNBC or QVC you may end up with Image Burn.....

Keep that in mind when you talk to your Dad about it....

Personally, I prefer DLPs....THEY do not suffer from IMAGE BURNS, and I do not suffer from "Rainbow effect" because I actually WATCH TV instead of trying to do 20 different things and watch TV all at the same time.....

You can sit there and "flutter" your eyelids and see it, OR you can "flutter" your eyeballs left and right and see it.....BUT WHO WATCHES TV LIKE THAT?!!
I sure don't....do you?

Go ahead...."Flutter" your eyes while looking at this monitor. Geez, my eyes feel the strain within 10 seconds...So I KNOW I won't be watching TV that way all the time.....

And Mitsubishi has the HIGHEST color wheel speed than anybody else....so your chances are lower of seeing it.

Now WHY did I DRAG ON and ON about it? Because the LCD CAMP will push this ONE shortcoming over and over to WIN this DLP vs LCD argument...

And I'll get truckloads of "Thumbs down" because of my position....

But I tell you what....I WORK on these TV sets ALL DAY LONG. I SEE the shortcomings of LCD and DLP....
And DLP wins overall......

And PIONEER? Try to find an Authorized Servicer for your TV set FIRST...
I think they have a couple service companies in Timbuktoo...
Sony and Mits have them everywhere.....

Yeah, you do have to look at the WHOLE PICTURE here, and some of these TOP END TV brands have very few servicers, and take months to get them to your home.....
MONTHS of not using your TV.....

That's like owning a Rolls Royce in the USA...you have to pay to get the Tech from the UK to the USA...And THAT SUCKS!

Runco makes some pretty high-end equipment. You might consider a front-projector. Going 80-100 inches tends to win the "who has the biggest" contest.

You could go for the biggest plasma to win bragging rights.

In my opinion:

Sony makes the best LCD televisions
Samsung makes the best rear-projector DLP televisions
Pioneer makes the best plasma televisions.
