I have Mitsubishi VS-60111 tv that says it is HD Upgradable. I don't know what it means. But it is supposed to be able to display 1080i.

I have regular charter cable service. The rep told me if I want HD signal I have to pay $10 amonth.

Can I buy a device from the market to enable my TV to receive the HD signal without paying $10 amonth?

720p/1080i already meet the minimum standard for the HDTV specification, so an upgrade is not only unnecessary, but would require buying a new 1080p set to ac hive the pinnacle of in the HDTV spec.

the $10 premium for HD is not a bad deal and would be the simplest option if it fits your budget.

You can purchase HD antennas separately -but- the resulting picture quality can vary drastically depending on your distance to the broadcast tower, and a number of other factors.

If it were me, and you qualify for satellite TV, I'd jump all over it. Less costly than "hard" cable and the promotional free install, free dish, and in some cases even a free DVD recorder are abundant. All you need is a "line of site." Something I don't have as I am surrounded 100+ foot tall oak trees. Check out Direct TV or one of their competitors via the Internet or telephone and listen to their "pitch."

Hate to break the news, but your TV is not really an HDTV. It does not support 720p, only 1080i. The catch is that you can only watch 1080i signals. Most HD stations broadcast in 720p. It would be a waste to spend money on an HD service. If the set top box can convert all 720p shows to 1080i, then you are in business. But, I have never seen a STB that has this feature. "HD upgradeable" means the TV doesn't have a built-in HD tuner. It's a term that isn't used anymore.

i found sum info that mite help...

"The TV uses the standard 480i (interlaced), you can use the 480p (progressive) with a progressive DVD player and with a HDTV receiver you can view 1080i. This is a digital TV that is HD (High Definition) upgradeable with an HDTV tuner. "

I know it accepts a 1080i signal, but i dont know if it actually displays the image at that high resolution.
