Is experinet the way to go? I was looking at vidoReQuest as well. Are there others out there that are good?
What I want is to have access to my roughly 700 DVD's on the TV screen (in multiple rooms), be able to search by Actor, cover art, etc.
I also want it to be adaptable to HD-DVD/Blu-ray and so want it to be able to project at 1080p and upconvert my standard DVDs.

I have a Sony DVD recorder/player plugged into a wide screen tv. When I watch a DVD the picture will suddenly change from widescreen to 4:3. If I press 'System Menu' on the remote once to get the menu up and then another time to get rid of it, the picture goes back to widescreen. 10-20mins later it does it again! The player is set to widescreen mode etc, so what else could it be?

I am building up my future home theater little by little and soon my Processor/Preamplifier along with the amps will be next to purchase. I just want to know will it really make a difference if you purchase a processor that has all DTS and Dolby Digital features to date instead of one that has the same exact stuff except carries along the THX Ultra logo. I noticed once a product has a THX certified logo on it, the price blows up for another thousand dollars or even more, why is that, are THX certified products really better in sound quality

I live in Singapore where the weather is warm and fairly humid summer temperatures throughout the year (approximately 30ºC/86ºF during the day and 23ºC/74ºF in the evening).

My CDs and DVDs are kept in CD boxes where there's a sleeve/pocket for each CD with a plastic flap over it. I place dehumidifiers in the drawers where I store these boxes.

1) What other precautionary measures should I take?

2) Is there a recommended temperature that I should keep them at to prevent mold and mildew from forming? Air conditioned room?

3) Besides mould, what else should I take note of that would damage these items when I just store them and not use it for a long time?

4) Other preventive measures for VHS tapes would be appreciated too.

Thanks in advance for answering.

My new condo is pre wired for 5.1 surround sound. I'm hoping to buy in-ceiling speakers, in-ceiling center speaker, a subwoofer and receiver. My living room is fairly small (about 18 ft. by 16 ft.). I want something that sounds good but is fairly inexpensive (under $1k) including installation. I assume installation would cost less for me because I'm already pre-wired for the system. What brand of system should I look to get and where should I look to buy it. I live in Sacramento, CA. if that helps.

I recently purchased a HDTV with 1080p and a blu-ray DVD player (PS3), and wonder what are home theater systems that would provide better outcomes at a reasonable cost (<$500). Do I need to buy a system or a receiver and separate speakers with capacity of 7.1 channel and HDMI 1.3 output?. Any recommendations on particular brand name and model?

Thanks ahead of time for your help!

I made the mistake of buying an inexpensive Sony home theater in a box ($179), because it was a second system to be used in the basement. The receiver is so weak that even though I upgraded the speaker wires (Monster XP CL Big 100, and the longest run is about 20 feet), every time you try to get any volume at all, the receiver goes into protect mode, and shuts down. The speakers are all 6 OHM, the receiver is rated at 100 watts per channel. So, I know I need a new receiver. Any recommendations in the $300-$400 range? All comments are appreciated.

I am not sure if i have made the right choice. The sony home theater will cost me $400 from Circuit city. I want to buy a theater in box. Onkyo HT-SR800S is also available from circuit city for $429 and $399 from 6thave.com. I need help in making the decision. I am not a home theater expert and have very very basic knowledge. Should i go with one of the 2 above or with any other. Thanks for your responses
