The preamp is used to process the audio signals before sending it to the amplifier. The preamp will have the jacks for CD players, tuners, tape decks and other audio device to plug into. The preamp will also have the tone, balance and volume controls. Some audiophiles like having the choice to chose the preamp and the amp separately.

The receiver will have both the preamp and amplifier housed in one unit. Receivers are typically less expensive that a preamp.amp combination.

Hope this helps.

Hi. The main difference is sound quality. A Receiver is an integrated amplifier containing the Pre-Amp ,Power Amp and Tuner in the one unit. These have to share some of the same components and usually there is only one power supply which puts a strain on the unit. This affects the sound quality in a negative way where some detail is lost due to the multiplicity of components. Because everything is in the one unit the cost can be lowered making a Receiver available to the mass market.

For those of us who want better quality sound and are prepared to pay for it a separate Pre-Amplifier and separate Power Amplifier(and a separate Tuner,if required) can perform better as they do not have to share the same components and each has its own power supply. The Pre-Amp is responsible for volume adjustment, input switching and the first stage of amplification. The Power Amp receives the amplified signal from the Pre-Amp and furthur amplifies it large enough to drive the speakers. The Pre-Amp is more important than the Power Amp because any distortions it introduces are then amplified again by the Power Amp and passed on to the speakers.
Hope this helps.

interior receivers are many times smaller, extra agile gamers who run shorter routes. outdoors receivers are many times extra effective, superior and swifter and run deep routes. a suited occasion may be Wes Welker as an interior receiver and Randy Moss as an outdoors receiver
