The best way to explain it to you is to tell you like it was told to me some years ago before I became more educated in the arena: "No highs, no lows, must be Bose". What you hear out of Bose speakers is basically mid-range treble. You will not hear the highest of the highs, nor the lowest of the bass. Everyone else has already commented on the fact that Bose is well know because of marketing so I won't go into that, but I will make a recommendation on what other brands to buy. For that money that you would spend on a Bose system, I would buy a set of Klipsch and I guarantee it will sound 10 times better.

To answer your question, nothing is "so good" about bose, except their marketing. Ask yourself why bose spends SOOO much money on marketing. It's because their speakers are incapable of selling themselves. Without bose constantly drilling their misguided hogwash about how superior they are, into the heads of consumers who are too lazy to do their own research, they'd never sell a thing. bose does a great job at making the unassuming consumer "think" they are buying the best. They're the ideal speaker for someone who doesn't have the ear to appreciate the truly good speakers but who still want to impress their friends by buying something that most people believe, if erroneously, is outstanding. Just remember that anyone serious about buying good speakers, is going to go listen to everything first... and when they do, they end up buying B&W, or Axiom, or DeffTech, Vienna Acoustics, M&K, Magnepan, or one of many other outstanding sets. They don't buy bose. In fact, walk into any reputable speaker shop and if you ask for bose, you'll be laughed out of the store.
BOSE stands for "Buy Other Speakers Everytime".

Hi Jun.Well you heard from the other Answerers about Bose, and i have to agree there are better speakers around that sound much better than Bose at half the price. When people have asked for advice on what speakers to buy for this or what speakers will suit that setup my answer is buy the ones that sound best to your ears. And here i am saying do that but don't get Boss.So i am contradicting myself which i do not like to do.I have always tried to be honest when it comes to helping people with choosing the best sound equipment for their budget.
So if someone likes the sound of Boss ,so what .They may not be an audiophile and do not listen intently looking for any abnomalities in the sound.
Actually when it comes to high quality sound reproduction i have never come across anyone in this group who gets it right. They say they are Audiophiles but they are not. They know all about the video processing sections but that is all. They cannot understand how and why the signal from the source to the speakers determines the final sound they hear. If something is not right they say get new speakers, but usually the problem is at the beginning. There are numerous sites about this but no one bothers .As soon as i mention about the way the signal travells, down go the" thumbs". So i say get what you like it is no one elses business.

As stated above and my take on them.
Bose speakers are like Honda Civics everyone knows about them.
Bose sound ok but don't buy into the hype. There are many other brands out there that will out perform boes any day.
They promote there systems like crazy and well when you here something enough the average consumer tends to buy into it.
Other brands that imo blow bose out of the water
Bang and Olufsen
Boston Acoustics
Mirage speakers
Bowers & Wilkins
Nakamichi
meridian-audio
Davinci
If your going to spend 2 to 3k and higher on speakers look into these other brands as well.

Bose HiFi Speaker System has a good Audio Engineering Design both on the Electrical Specifications and Accoustics. Thou there are other brands that you can compare and listen and it depends on your taste, requirements, listening pleasure, and budget also. Audio HiFi Enthusiast or Critics not only see the Specifications, Price, and Appearance but Listens and Compare its' Specifications as per actual.Comparing on other brands is advisable, thou there's some brands offers a lower prices but sounds the same or better. It depends also on your HiFi Stereo Amplifier / Receiver if it is "Match" with the Speaker System you are buying. Pls see and check this Link...

A lot of ppl are gonna tell you that bose is not good. ppl who bash Bose are audiophiles who are into the AV as a hobby or intrest, I myself am one of those. Bose is for those ppl who buy HTIB who want things to be less complicated. If you compare Bose to HTIB like sony, samsung or any other one, the diffrence is night and day. The Bose Lifetyle systems sounds really good, and dont take up that much space. I have a Bose Lifestyle 48 in one living room, and Harman Kardon Avr745 hooked up to Defintive 7.2 speaker setup in my game/media room. its all about preferance, alot of ppl who heard both setups say the Harmon Kardon setup is just too loud, But the Bose sound is just Right. so I suggest compare it for yourself and just go with the one thats sounds good to you.

dude they make the finest speakers in the world!.they are so small and they performed twice as much as a big boom box (trust me i have seen it and heard it!).3 to 5 sets of them are enough to make your house rumble.they must be well placed and you know they can actually set up the acoustics on their own wit the touch of a button.they may be pricey but they are definitely worth it!
