You may want to try Crutchfield or Best Buy and look for a HTIB (home theater in a box) package. You might get lucky and get a 6 speaker setup with a receiver and build-in DVD player for $300 to $400. All you will need is a TV and you're ready to go!!!

Here's a link to some HTIB systems in your price range. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-7TdkWIWp3qP/cgi-bin/ProdGroup.asp?g=37700

The first on on the page is a Sony which is not too bad for a starter system.

Good luck!

The cheapo abode theater in a container are all synthetic via the two a Taiwan or chinese language producer. all of them use the comparable layout/broking for the speaker. in case you learn heavily, it is not something better than a glorified low priced computer speaker made with paper cones. I definitely have a Zenith setup it became approximately $250 whilst i offered it, got here with DVD participant too. i'm no longer too overjoyed yet i'm using it as a working laptop or computer gaming rig. It does the interest.

The following is not anywhere near to being an audiophile quality system, but in my opinion you can't beat it for the price:

Dayton sub-80 subwoofer -- $80

2 pairs Pioneer S-HF-21 speakers $30 per pair -- $60

1 Pioneer S-HF11C center channel speaker --$ 60

1 Sherwood RD 6500 surround sound receiver -- $136

Sony DVPNS57P/B DVD player -- $58

Total price is around $400. Buy Dayton speaker wire and interconnects at Parts Express.
