On Tuesday, I bought a Verizon cell phone and cell phone plan. I have had TracFone for the past four years and had wanted to keep my phone number since everyone knows it. The guy at the store told me the number would port over, but it could take anywhere from five minutes to a few days. Well, it's been nearly a week. My number still has not ported over. I'm leaving for college on Friday and it's getting annoying having to carrying around two phones (TracFone for incoming calls, Verizon for outgoing). Is there anything I should do to help the numbers port over quicker? Should I keep the phones on or off? Will turning the phones off effect the amount of time it takes to port the number?

I'm thinking I should have just asked them to give me a new phone number...

Also, should I pay a visit to the Verizon store tomorrow? Or should I wait a few more days?

Today I saw a cell phone tower disguised to look like a tree. Does anyone else think this is totally dumb? I mean, it's so much taller than the rest of the trees that to make it look like a tree is just silly. C'mon people - we all know it's a cell tower. Duh!

I used to have a AT&T service plan, but now i don't have an cell service at all. Im wondering whether I can just buy a prepaid calling card, and insert the SIM (?) card into the old phone, and would that work? or do i have to buy an entirely new prepaid phone & card package like the Virgin Mobile thing?

My boyfriend just got one of them, and every day or two, it pops up a message asking if he wants to set the time and date. It also pops up a message after every call and before every text showing the status of the minutes left. The ones that pop up before the text messages are especially inconvenient because it forces him to go through several menu layers to read the message instead of popping it up like most phones do. Is there any way to change this? There don't seem to be any settings to change in the "settings" menu.
