I used to have a AT&T service plan, but now i don't have an cell service at all. Im wondering whether I can just buy a prepaid calling card, and insert the SIM (?) card into the old phone, and would that work? or do i have to buy an entirely new prepaid phone & card package like the Virgin Mobile thing?

for example, would buying something like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/BRAND-NEW-CINGULAR-PREPAID-STARTER-KIT-W-10-64K-SIM_W0QQitemZ270019299854QQihZ017QQcategoryZ98191QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem and inserting the chip into my phone work??

thanks for your help!

If the old phone is GSM then technically speaking it should work because AT&T and Cingular are pretty much one in the same. Like the person stated previously - you should give Cingular a call to be certain.

But at the price he's asking for one, I might pick up one of those SIM cards myself.
