I know I am going to eventually have to upgrade to vista. I have 5 pcs at home. 4 running xp home and 1 running ubuntu linux. I am ok with linux, but there is just not enough support for it for many of the applications that I am looking for. We have a test machine at my work with vista to see how compatible our old software is (about 80% of our systems work without problems). I like the new interface, it does not really seem to offer anything more than I already have in xp (other than it looking a little prettier). I already have IE 7 installed as well as media player 10

How long would you think I can hold off upgrading 1 year, 2 years, 3? without losing any real support.

I upgrade my system - i don't purchase new ones.

I think too many people get hyped up about the interface. It is an oeprating system and that is really all. What makes a computer is the applications it will run.

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone remembered doing this in Excel:
Having a spreadsheet open where in the first column you are inputing data like BW, HL, etc...and you have other worksheets for each separate data like one for BW, one for HL... So the main one has all the information, but then you want to split the data up into seperate worksheets. I don't know if I'm making any sense but I remember learning about this but totally forgot how to do it. Help!

I just recently bought a Mac. Before I bought it, I was looking at the different 2007 Office versions for Windows (I downloaded a trial version of it). While I never actually used OneNote, the concept of it sounded great for me. However, in the Mac's Office version there is no OneNote (or anything like it that I can see). Is there something similar to it that would help me to organize my notes (I did read somewhere that some of the OneNote features were built into Office for Mac, but I'm not sure if this is correct)?

I like the Ubuntu Linux, especially the Kubuntu version but I am having difficulty getting information about the kernel.
It looks a lot like Debian which I have used frequently but I am not sure that it is.
It looks like it would handle Deb packages but then again it fails on installation.
Linspire and Xandros are both based on Debian and if Ubuntu is also based on Debian then I do not comprehend the logic why Linspire would be switching to Ubuntu as the core of it's distribution.

My PC, like everyone else's, has become bogged down. It's slow when I use it and it is slow while booting up. I run several spyware tools (no, not running in memory), I defrag regularly, I've used TweakUI to speed up my menu response, I've looked for nasty spyware using HijackThis, and I've tried analyzing my boot times with BootVis.)

Are there any good (not the spyware junk that comes up on google) free utilities out there that will analyze your system or speed it up in any way? I'm just tried to get closer to that freshly installed Windows feel without freshly installing Windows again.

I am shopping around for Norton Internet Security Software for my laptop. RRP seems to be about £39.99. I have seen some websites selling this for less, some state 'retail boxed' at £34.99 and the same product with the letters OEM is priced at £18.99, what does the OEM mean, and what is the difference? There is also the download versions which also seems to be cheaper - are there any disadvantages to this? Are there any trusted websites selling this software besides symantec?
