My older computer crashed and someone said to install windows on top of windows without formatting,but would have to "activate windows","how" is this done?It won't get past a message to re-install windows root system 32 hal.dll,have tried everything and don't have a backup disk,as purchased from someone who is deceased now,so don't know anything about this computer.It is a Dell optiplex and did have Windows XP Home Edition on it,but computer is unaccessable as can't get past this message.I'm on my newer computer asking questions.So how can you install windows on top of windows,and how do you activate windows.This computer repair must take a genious to figure out,very stressful and complicated.Already tried putting the Windows XP home edition Cd in,but won't do anything.

I started having trouble with my Hotmail account a few months ago, then about a week ago my Yahoo account started doing the same thing. I was wondering if anyone knew if there might be some virus that had this effect on e-mail passwords? I have to change my password almost every time I sign in.

I recently bought a new computer. I managed to transfer all my itunes songs and stuff to my new computer BUT it won't let me play the things I bought off the iTunes Music Store. It says my computer isn't authorized. I read up on what that meant and figured it out, when I went to try and authorize my new computer it said I needed to be connected to the internet, my new computer isn't connected to the internet yet. Is there any way to authorize my new computer to play the things I bought on iTunes without it being connected to the internet?

I want to change the default sounds on my computer to different ones that I have chosen off the internet. I've done this before on my other computer but now I have a different one and it's confusing me. It used to be that I would click on the sound to be downloaded and it would show up on Windows Media Player or Quicktime or something like that and I could save it to my computer. But now it just downloads in the internet window itself and then changes to a different window where I can just push stop, play, rewind, etc., with no way of saving it to my computer. This has happened on several different sites and I can't figure out if it's them or just a setting on my computer. Can you help figure out how to save them to my computer? i really need a desktop background for halloween. i don't want one that is gory, has blood, or any thing like that. i want one that is cartoon. if that is ok. i also wouldn't mind something like scooby-doo or charlie brown er something like that. and it needs to be high quality. thanks for helping.

He has printouts but needs to change some of the text. I have scanned one in but it saves as an image and the text cannot be manipulated in Word. Is there any way I could manipulate the text as there is a lot of work and I'll be up all night. This happened because he thinks he knows everything and wouldn't let me teach him how to save properly. Help!!

Everytime I unplug my laptop from its power supply, basically unplug it from the mains, it cuts out completely, and I have to start it up again. Its always fully charged up, so it's not lack of power causing it! I don't know whats wrong with it! It makes moving from one place to another very diffilcult! If anyone knows anything, it would be apprieciated! Love Em xXx
