I used to be able to do this with IE6 but so far it looks like IE7's ugly big E cannot be changed. Any fixes or suggestions

Hello Young Dominic. Yes, it did work. Thank you very much BUT I am afraid I may not have made myself perfectly clear. We have many short cut icons on our desk top leading to particular websites. Each one is different. My husband had created them with the help of an icon program called Microangelo. When we installed IE7 each of those wonderful individual icons became the standard IE explore icon and now we cannot change them back. Somebody had suggested that we try uninstalling and then reinstalling again but I was hoping that we wouldn't have to go through that. Good try but..........grrrrrrrrr

Yes, I tried changing mine as a test and it worked correctly.

Try creating a TOTALLY FRESH shortcut directly from the launch exe which is located in c:\program files\internet explorer

RIGHT DRAG this IE launch icon (the one in program files\internet explorer) onto your desktop, and drop it - a little menu will pop-up as you drop it. Click "Create Shortcuts Here".

You should now have a blue "e" which says "shortcut to iexplore.exe". Now try changing that icon by the usual route: right click it and click Properties. Click the middle tab at the top, Shortcut. Now click the Change Icon button and select your fancy new icon from the scrollable list (Planet Earth is very nice), and click OK. Finally click "Apply" then click OK. You MUST click Apply, or it won't work. Try this and tell us whether it worked.

If it works, you can then of course rename it anything you like, and you can right drag it onto the Quicklaunch panel on the left of the taskbar (if you have that visible).

If your Windows installation is working OK, this procedure should work.
