My laptop is about a year and a half old, and recently everytime it runs on battery power, it drains very quickly. For example, I had it on battery for about 15 minutes and looked at the remaining life..it said something like 30 minutes, 70%. It has never been such a short life like that! Why is it happening?

whether it is company service technician/engineer,or an authorised service engineer, or a freelancer, all of them insist that laptop be left with them (for testing or so they say),when it comes to desktop it is serviced on site. Isn’t this procedure faulty? causing a breach in security? OR is this just a hogwash to impress the client and fleece?

I just bought an Acer Aspire 3680-2682 laptop: 1.86Ghz, 512MB DDR2, etc. It is completely clean, no additional software installed... used only for Internet Explorer. And it is SLOW!!!. Not as in connection speed. But slow as in, the whole machine slows to a crawl... mouse clicks and keypresses become lagged, etc. It even feels slower than my old 1.0 GHz Sharp PCMM20, which uses a firmware-emulated Pentium processor (Transmeta).

Is the problem Windows Vista? Or is it the Norton Internet Security which came pre-installed? Is there anything I can do to speed it up? Should I wipe off the HDD and install XP?

Are the any good benchmarks out there so I can try to quantify how bad this really is?

Thanks in advance for any answers!

I use my laptop 95% of the time at home. I know that for iPods, you are supposed to charge it to its fullest, and then let it drain, and then charge it to the fullest again to keep the battery in the best condition. Is this the same for the MacBook? I purchased my MacBook at around Thanksgiving, and I've already clocked in 16 charge cycles. Is this bad? I find that I charge my MacBook like every other day. I charge it to its fullest and then use it for a day(5hrs), and then charge it the next day to 100%. Should I just keep it plugged in at ALL times to the charger(since I keep it at home anyways), or should I keep doing what I am doing right now(charging ever other day)?

I know that most PCs come with Vista now, and that 2gb of RAM are recommended to run that. I also want to be able to play World of Warcraft wirelessly, without computer slowdowns. I'm not a huge gamer otherwise. I don't do much else on my PC other than manage media and e-mail/surf. Is it possible to find a reliable laptop for $600 or less???

(This is realy for my mate - lol) He must of downloaded a dodgy file or a virus because his laptop's all messed up. He wanted to clear it all away and start again. He didn't want to pay for anybody to do it for him so he used the recovery disk to install Windows Xp over his copy of Windows Xp. Now, when he boots, he gets a small glipmse of the Xp logo and then another small glimpse of a blue screen, then finaly the laptop restarts. (he says) he's tried using the recovery console but it still dosent boot and he was wondering if there was anything else he could do. (He *was* running Windows XP, SP 2) If theres anything else you need to know I'll ask him. Thanks in advance.

I have just bought a Mac laptop, and am trying to register it to the internet using a phone cable modem. Since I don't have my own internet account, I used my parent's account information. But all it says is "cannot connect to server." Do I need my own account to connect? I am very frustrated. Help! I will choose a best answerer!
