whats wrong with my laptop screen?

when i turned my laptop on only the top portion showed some of the microsoft windows at the top portion of the screen and the bottom half started to fade away what's the problem

LCD matrix die. Run boost CD to make sure. Find ebay bargain of LCD installation as need.
