(This is realy for my mate - lol) He must of downloaded a dodgy file or a virus because his laptop's all messed up. He wanted to clear it all away and start again. He didn't want to pay for anybody to do it for him so he used the recovery disk to install Windows Xp over his copy of Windows Xp. Now, when he boots, he gets a small glipmse of the Xp logo and then another small glimpse of a blue screen, then finaly the laptop restarts. (he says) he's tried using the recovery console but it still dosent boot and he was wondering if there was anything else he could do. (He *was* running Windows XP, SP 2) If theres anything else you need to know I'll ask him. Thanks in advance.

He needs to re-install WindowsXP again but this time he should do a FULL format recovery. This will completely erase the hard drive and then re-install windowsxp. If it still won't loadup after doing this, then the MBR has probally been infected with a virus, which I would then suggest taking it to the shop! good luck :)
