My dad just gave me his Gateway laptop because he just got a new Dell. The Gateway that I got is only about 3 years old. It's got Windows XP. It is one of there nicer laptops...he paid some big money for it. But for some reason it just runs so slow. The internet isn't bad b/c we have a good wireless in our house. But like when I start it up it takes forever. And I've been trying to do some Windows Updates and it starts checking for updates and then it comes up with an error message, like windows can't display the page. I also know that there is a lot of pictures and a lot of music on this laptop..could that be the reason for the slowness?

I brought my laptop to a Computer Store, they spent two days with it and returned it with no answers. They suspect (as I do) that I've fried the motherboard. I have an older laptop, could I (should I) attempt to switch the motherboards, or am I treading in areas beyond my capabilities? The whole idea was to save money by purchasing a used machine, so I don't want to simply replace the whole laptop. Thanks!

I have a new Dell XPS m1330 which came with Vista Home Premium installed. I would like to install Windows XP Pro but have run across a driver problem. The Dell support site does *not* have XP drivers for the audio or video cards. I managed to fins a suitable driver for the video, but I still have not been able to make the Audio work.

The actual card / audio chipset is a Sigmatel stac 9228. I have tried drivers for similar models, like the m1210 and the Inspiron 1501. No luck. I have tried a general web search for such a, even the Sigmatel / IDT web site. No luck.

Any ideas?

I have a Sony Vaio laptop, and for some reason when I'm scrolling with the touchpad, even in the middle of the webpage, it automatically goes "back" on the internet browser, without me hitting the back button. I've never had this problem with IBM or Dell laptops. It does this constantly and it drives me nuts, and I've heard from other Vaio owners that theirs does the same. Does anyone know why it does this, and whether I can fix it or is it just a glitch in the design?

I bought, in April, a new HP Pavillion Notebook along with an HP colorsmart printer. The printer has given me nothing but major headaches. Why? I'm told it's not quite compatible with the Vista operating system. Is that true? The other issue is that every other time on the printer it is looking to install itself. I have spent hours on the phone with HP and they swear it's all better but the problem returns. Am I alone in having this problem?

I just purchased a Toshiba Satellite computer and noticed that the hard drive C: space is decreasing by the minute at rates which couldn't be done by downloading small updates. I had an HP laptop and had the same thing and took it back so I'm thinking it may be Vista since I have a desktop with XP and it never did this. Has anyone else had this problem and is there anyway to correct it?

I have a Compaq Presario laptop and the motherboard went bad. Is there anything I can do with it now? Are there companies that will buy this? Is it worth anything? Is it good for anything? I hate to just throw it away, it was fairly expensive. Any advice? Serious responses only please. Thanks

TMobile does not work. I do not like monoploly and refuse to use Verizon. There's got to be a service that can be used no matter where I am in the world also. The wireless card that I have is from Tmobile.
