You can be a high school student, home schooled, an elementary student, any kind of student. You can be a teacher or work in a school system. Apple is vey liberal about their education discount. Your sister can buy the computer for you, but it would need to be registered in her name. She will be asked to prove she is a student. She can fax a copy of her ID, or Apple can ask her school.

In order to get student discount, I've had to access the website from within my uni. If you try and access the academic side from outside, you won't be able to get discount, if you can get in at all.

You can have my Apple Student discount -- I'm in college, but I'm also a computer science major that knows Apples are complete garbage.
