I bought, in April, a new HP Pavillion Notebook along with an HP colorsmart printer. The printer has given me nothing but major headaches. Why? I'm told it's not quite compatible with the Vista operating system. Is that true? The other issue is that every other time on the printer it is looking to install itself. I have spent hours on the phone with HP and they swear it's all better but the problem returns. Am I alone in having this problem?

Don, Yes that makes TOTAL sense. But the fact is that I've spoken to the people at HP ad nauseum, even downloading the drivers that my printer supposedly needed to be compatible with vista. Remember, they're BOTH HP products. It works for a little while then it starts again. I'm reading to throw this thing out the window!!!!!

I once had a similar problem with an HP printer and they sent me a new one. You may have waited too long to return it though. You should have bought a MAC!

Here is the straight scoop on your problem.
When Microsoft comes out with a new Operating System many times it will not be compatible with Printers Scanners and Camera's.
Reason. The software and drivers are not compatible with the new software. Then all the of the periphial manufactures are scrambling to catch up and make there printers and other equipment work with the new Operating System.
This happens everytime they upgrade and develop a new operating system, The software doesn't work and nothing else works until they develop new software for it and drivers for the other hardware.
