I have a Packard Bell. XP HOME

The computer won't boot at all, and dosn't seem to be searching the hard drive when loading.

I asked this question before and got told to put the disk in and select repair, but I don't have this option. I only have the recovery DVD for the computer and when I put that in all I can do is a system restore. However I have so many files and programs which I won't be able to get back, and which I need desperately.

What Can I do?

Step by step instructions and quick response appreciated.

Will give 10points

Thanks

Thanks Paul for your answer: it guided me, but...
I am not using ASP (God Forbid!), but PhP and AJAX: images are rebuilt after each user input and resent to the browser under ajax to update the "image" division.
Using this header
header("Cache-Control: no-cache, must-revalidate");
header("Expires: Mon, 26 Jul 1997 05:00:00 GMT");
before the tag on the index.php solves the problem with IE, but NOT in Firefox.
Any idea?

I have an 8 year old computer - this was even before USB. A few months ago my HP Deskjet 600C gave up the ghost and I've been attempting to fins a replacement. When I go to electronic stores and ask for a parallel port printer, I just receive incredulous looks and the comment that they aren't being made any longer. All the new printers require USB connections and at least 256 MB RAM (mine has 128MB). I can't buy one off the Internet because I don't have a credit card. I also tried Craig's list, but parallel port printers are few in number and the ones I inquired about aren't guaranteed to work. Any suggestions?

Forcing the refreshing an image ?
When downloading an image, browsers store these in the temp folder, so if you refresh the page, it picks the image already downloaded and saved on your machine.
I want to dowload the SAME filename image, but images will be different each time. How can I make sure that it is the NEW image that is displayed, and NOT the one internally stored ? (sort of "kill the old, reload the new")
Thanks for answers, but no: it is not up to the surfer to refresh the image: it MUST be in the HTML, java or php code. (some java setting of "life" of an object?)
