Ok ive recently re-installed my windows xp and after i was done a 30 day activation came on my screen. ive used another laptops CD to reinstall windows and now i dont know what the activation key is.

Does it need my last laptops COA key to activated it?

I have a strange suspicion that computer memory degrades over time. There are millions of transistors, each with a Poisson dist. probability of failure at any given time... obviously when one transistor goes the whole circuit does not fail. But when a ptg of transistors fail say over 3 years, does the memory actually get slower?????

I format my computer about every 1-2 years, but it always seems to be slower even running the same software. Anybody know if this is correct and how you know?

Okay, I'm not the most computer savvy person but I have read the microsoft website advice and other Answers on this topic and realize I must repair the file using the Setup CD. It would also appear that the likely outcome of this action will be that either the registry will be reset or a full system reinstallation is required. So, before I jump in I was wondering what kind of data losses I can expect if :
a. just the registry is repaired or
b. the whole system needs reinstalling

I guess i'd just like to know if i'm in for any devastating losses of data files such as photos or work documents as, obviously, i'd like to minimise the losses as much as possible so if you can make me less nervous about reinstalling my entire system (which seems like a rather scary step to me) it would be appreciated.

I want to run my "Windows Vista Home Premium" and "Mac osX 10.4.6 X86" and have a dualboot system .....as i am new to this, please give me any possible info and i'll be grateful ...

currently my Vista Premium is doing and no probz at all, i have 20GB Partition on my Raptor in case i need for mac ...I want to be able to chose which operating system to boot when i startup ....my main system is gonna be Vista, and mac is for fun and other productivities ....any help will be greatly appreciated ........thank you ....

I'm buying a windows laptop soon, but I'm not sure how much memory to get--either 1 or 2 GB. On the website, there are 2 kinds of RAM for each-- 553 mhz and 667 mhz. Which one should I get? What do these numbers mean? I plan to use the computer only for word-processing, surfing the web, watching movies (no gaming).

I receive messages from Windows Security Update Center saying that my compueter is vulnerable, unprotected and unsecure. It also says it is at a high risk and that all my private information is exposed. Last message received was saying that my computer was currently sending private information to a remote computer! How did that happen? I have Norton Antivirus Professional 2003, but my subscription was not renewed, so may be that's why I'm exposed to viruses. I've also found that my computer was infected with 3 viruses, trojan, etc. but I managed to get rid of them using the antivirus program. Can anyone help me pls? and let me know what to do?? Do I need an IT professional to fix my computer? What can I do??!!

Hello, I'm about to send my Inspiron 2200 Dell laptop back to be repaired, and I would like to upgrade to a nice graphics card. I bought this computer new about 1 year ago. hi, i have an x-blade case, it has a side fan, a front fan and a rear fan. it is noisy as hell. i have disabled the side fan and just wondering if its ok to disable the front one? i think the rear is just blowing out of the power box, so do i really need to have the front intake running, or will i risk over heating?

I have an old laptop which didnt work anymore (it wouldnt turn on). I thought it died so I decided to take it apart. I unscrewed every single piece that can be taken apart (that is, including the CMOS battery). But then due to unforeseen circumstances I had to put it back together.

So today I thought it would be nice to try out if it is still alive. I plugged the AC in and miraculously it turned on (o_O)...

BUT the problem: it turned on, with the fan spinning, and nothing appeared on the screen. A few seconds later it switched itself off. I think it's the CMOS that was reset and so how am I suppose to get the BIOS back on?

It would be helpful if Internet Explorer could be English, too, but while it was possible to download IE in English when it was a separate program under Windows 98 and maybe under NT, it seems that it is now integrated into Vista. I downloaded it, but it says I have a newer version that the newest downloadable one.

For Vista, I can't find an English language pack, if there is such a thing. It seems odd that an English computer can be made to have Japanese menus by using a Language Pack, but the reverse doesn't seem an easy thing, if it's possible. It seems there are no English Language Packs.
