Cisco is a very well known 'brand name' or company for computer networking products. Sort of like 'Kleenex' for facial tissues.

They are more commonly used by advanced network corporations because of their high price range. Their equipment ranges from thousands to millions, not hundreds. Their products use a very specific language for configuration which you can learn and their company offers various tests for, such as CCNA, CCIE...

Because people who can afford Cisco hardware usually have a lot of money, Cisco certified employees tend to get paid a lot.

Cisco bought out Linksys (another computer network company) recently, but other than the fact they own the company, there isn't much connection between the two.

FYI - They got the name from "SAN FRANcisco".
That's why their logo is of the GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE.
