Pick the RAM that works in the computer. Visit http://www.coastmemory.com and look up your computer and model. Get memory that matches what you already have.
Today, they claim that Windows Vista works with 512MB of RAM. I have seen it with just 512MB of RAM and it's DOG SLOW. Getting 1GB makes it work pretty good.
But consider Windows XP. If you bought it in 2002 with just 128MB of RAM, you would notice that it was DOG SLOW. But increasing it to 256MB was OK at first. But today, if you don't have 512MB of RAM with WIndows XP, it's DOG SLOW.
So in three years from now, you would want FOUR TIMES as much RAM as the minimum. You see, with more viruses and many many more Windows Vista Updates... it WILL SLOW DOWN. So save yourself the hassles and get 2GB now. You see, you only have that one slot to work with.
Good luck and Happy Computing!

It depends on the Operating System. If it's Vista, more is better, so is faster.
2 GB RAM at 667MHZ is recommended because laptops can be difficult to upgrade. The other thing that is very important is the Built-in graphics. Buy the best you can afford and your laptop should be good for many years.
TIP: Avoid Vista Basic at all cost, it's just not worth it.

To simplify:
###MHz RAM is the speed of the ram. This helps determine how fast/responsive your computer is, in general.
1GB/2GB is the size/capacity of the ram. When you run out of ram, your computer gets slow because it has to find slower places to store information. If you like to have a lot of programs/windows open, get 2GB. If you never keep more than a few windows open, 1GB will be fine (you won't notice the difference).
Hope this helps, feel free to contact me directly if you need more assistance.

Higher is better but more expensive. Get 2 gig if you are going to be using Vista or several programs. If the use of the laptop is for minimal use then 1 gig is sufficient. Trust me I am in business and use my lap top all the time. Also if you get 2 gigs your lap top will perform faster.

If your planning to use the laptop just for word, music, and surfing, you should take the cheapest of the two, you don't need 2GB ram, and 553mhz is good enough.

often, you mustn't combination memory clock speeds. some memory is able to clocking itself all the way down to examine the optimal person-friendly speed, yet maximum isn't. from time to time even the memory it is able to this. in case you have a difficulty from blending memory speeds, the indicators could be random blue displays, random resetting, poor memory overall performance, or random software crashes.
