I want to know if my manufacturer gave me the genuine Intel Dual Core processor. How to check the authenticity of my processor.

You see I have to stay w/my parents for a few months and I have to use my dads computer. If I down load IM from Yahoo will he be able to see it? He'll freak if he sees stuff like that and also when I get IM's from people and my dad is on line will he get my IM's?Is there a way I can hide this from him?

I have a BASH script that is kicked off via CRON. It checks to see if any new file has arrived. If so, it unzips the file via gunzip.

The problem is that if the file is very large (i.e. 5gb+) the script will not finish before cron launches a new instance. Now I have two instances trying to unzip the same file.

So, my solution is to touch .file.ext.lock and then try to unzip. When the unzip is done, I rm -f .file.ext.lock. That way, if another instance wakes up and finds the lock file, it will just echo that a lock file exists and exit.

I was wondering if this is the best way to do it though. Do you see any flaws in this and if so, how would you go about resolving the flaws.

What exactly are they doing with YouTube? Is it just for profit from the ads, or are they actually going to make into one of those Google programs like Google maps, Google Local, Froogle, etc. And what's the point in them having Google Video now anyways? YouTube still doesn't say: copyright 2006 Google, or anything like that.

Every time I sign in to yahoo IM, it tells me that Yahoo messenger has performed an illegal operation and needs to shut down. When I hit details it says: YAHOOMESSENGER caused an invalid page fault in
module KERNEL32.DLL... and a bunch of other gibberish. I have tried uninstalling it AND downloading a older version and still nothing. Help!!!!!!!!!!!!

I own a 2002 Compaq Presario (not sure what model, my dad bought it for me at a Mega-one-stop shopping center for $200, so it's a bit crap. Only reason it lasted this long was I had the Geek Squad trip it out six months after my dad gave it to me) that currently has a AMD Athlon XP 2200+ processor in it (I'm not sure about the motherboard). A few years ago I updated the video card to a Raedon 9800 and added more RAM to it. Recently the computer has been crashing, freezing and stalling like an S.O.B. and a friend of mind suggested upgrading the motherboard/processor. I will more than likely have to update the power supply and cooling system as well, but what are some good motherboard/processor drives out there, average prices and quality. Thanks in advance.

I had an error with my computer, and some how my Yahoo Messenger is set to Dial up instead of Cable. It won't let me sign into Messenger, but I can view my mail. How do I change the settings to cable. I've been on cable for years, and I don't know how or why it got changed. On my Messenger tool bar, nothing is high lighted, so I can't change it there.

The black screen doesn't go away, and my computer lights still blink as if it's on. It only happens sometimes, and I was able to get rid of the screen if I closed my laptop forcefully. Now, nothing works. It's not really that big a deal, but it's bothersome since I always have to restart it whenever I wake up in the morning.

I have a Dell laptop, though .. I don't know anything else specific (my brother picked it out for me).

There r 4 computers here---We do not share computers yet I need an anti virus that I can use on all 4 for one price. Not sure, I think mcafee I can. Best buy employee talked me into pc cillin today, but it only supports 3 computers, and when I read the required memory later it seems like it will take a lot up.
