I am a Tennessean and currently living in Virginia. I have known a lot of good ol' southern boys who drive Toyota trucks, but am curious how it is in other states. Do the good ol' boys in your state drive Toyota trucks?

Will we see $5 a gallon gas in the U.S before the end of this year? If so, how would you change your daily routine?

I drove over a water covered bridge and water came up over the front of my hood, it seemed that it was like this for about one second, I made it through but 1 to 2 seconds later my car died. I was able to restart it after 3 tries. I removed the air filter which was soaked in water. I have driven on the highway today. Initiallly it was very slow to accelerate but the more I drive it the more it seems to accelerate easier and drives fairly well at 80 mph (with fair acceleration), however when I am stopped it is idling very rough. did I ruin the engine???

I read an article in a local paper about an inventor in Wi that is working on an electric vehicle powered by bumps in the road or suspension travel---I imagine it's a system that uses the up and down motion of the shocks to energize a magnetic field and generate electricty to charge the batteries. Sounds simple and is simliar to regenerative braking in that the energy used to stop a car is put back in to moving the car. Article is here:

Since America is the land of inventors, I was wondering if there's anyone else looking into available ways to power a car other than hybrid, diesel, hydrogen, photovoltaic, etc...how creative are people getting with the price of gas now.

I can't believe Americans continue to finance our own demise by making the Middle East our masters...all for OIL??? Every country in the world uses small vehicles due to their price per gallon. Gas prices will continue to go UP as long as we PAY for it. Demand auto makers make cars that run on water, or anything other than oil. We knew in the 70's we needed to change our ways with respect to the consumption of gasoline and here we are 30 years later and nothing has changed...except the control the Middle East has over us!! Wake up America before our enemies BUY (with our $) and USE the "mushroom cloud" over us. Let them DRINK THEIR OIL!! Tell our auto manufacturers we want engines that get a MINIMUM of 50 mpg!!! Nobody addresses our oil problems at the root - our vehicles!! I guess Americans would rather drive their 10 mpg vehicles and GAMBLE that Iran's fanatical regime is just "stating" they want us DEAD!!

When you drive a small, fuel efficient car that gets 30+ mpg it really isn't that big a deal. I hope this causes some people to think twice about buying and owning gas guzzling SUV's. Let's see gas go up to $5/gallon!

Which kind of car would you rather have?

A 1965-70 Oldsmobile 98 or a 2002-06 Toyota Camry?

Me I would MUCH rather go for the 1965-70 Oldsmobile 98 cause they are more distinctive looking, they have alot more style, they have a powerful big block V8 underneath the hood, they're alot safer in the car accidents and best of all they remind me of the days when America knew how to make good cars with style and performance.

Plus when you're in a crowded parking lot you can tell which car is yours from a mile away.

Make + Model + Year (if possible)

For me:

1989-90: Austin Metro (new in 1984) (died in a RTA)
http://www.stormkrewsaders.com/stray_vw/stray_metro_1989.jpg

1990-91: Ford Capri 3.0L (old can't remember year - same colour as the rusty car from the Sweeney or Life on Mars)

1991-92: Ford Capri 2.8L (old but newer and faster and smart blue)

1992-93: Some old Citroen thing with that rising suspension (which I played with and broke on highest setting, hydraulic fluid everywhere, and wasn't cost effective to repair)

1993-94: An old-style Renault (can't remember model but rare and quite reliable - but very uncool looking)

1995-97: A Fiat Tipo (bought near new - but not cool looking but ok drive)

1998-2002: A VW Polo (new in 1995).. a girly type car but reliable and got me from A to B.

2002 - present: A VW Golf (bought new) and nice to drive and been pretty ok for reliability.
