My question is could it do the trip across over 1700 mile's with out damaging the engine? Where could i find the tow capacity because i do not have my book about my truck. This truck was handed down thru my father in his will to me and i do not want to damage the engine! it is pretty much all i have left of him so any help in this dilemma would be GREATLY appriciated!!!

It really depends on what is on the trailer and how much the trailer weighs. Look on the drivers door and there should be information about the truck. You could call nissan too.

I towed a 24' trailer 150 miles with no problems. It struggled a little going up the hills. I drove an '02 Ford Ranger. I looked in the owner's manual and it said that it needs to be equipped for towing class III trailers to tow safely without damage. If your pickup has a tow hitch installed (not a bumper hitch), a light hookup, and a transmission fluid cooler(a box the fluid flows through near the radiator to cool it), it is probably fine. Don't push it too hard and keep an eye on things like engine temp.

A 20 foot trailer is probably pushing the limits if not exceeding them for a V6---I'd call a Nissan dealer--talk to a knowledgeable truck salesman and see what the recommended tow capacity is for the truck and find out the weight of the trailer. Plus, find out if the truck is set up for towing like trans cooler, heavier springs and shocks, etc.. A long trip is not the time to find these things out.

2006 Nissan Frontier:

Weights: gross vehicle weight rating (lbs) 5,690, curb weight (lbs) 4,323, gross trailer weight braked (lbs) 6,301 and max payload (lbs) 1,367

Power: 198 kW , 265 HP SAE @ 5,600 rpm; 284 ft lb , 385 Nm @ 4,000 rpm

Match that to the trailer plus the weight of the load on the trailer.
