You need to be more specific in your question. What do you have to start with? What are you trying to accomplish? Do you need more hosepower or more tourque? Could you benifit by better gearing or do you need to get some bolt ons. Do you have a 4cly, 6 cyl, 8 cyl. Carburated? or fuel injected?
Really need to know where you are starting. More horsepower doesnt always mean better performance. if your transmisson or rear end cant handle it you will just break parts. Sometimes just gearing can be better then working on the engine. For example. I have a 1981 Corvette. It was really a dog out of the factory even though its a corvette. It has 2:73 rear end. The car will do 140MPH but takes forever to get there. the 0-60 times suck. So I replaced the rear end with 3:55 rear end and put in a 700R4 transmission. That raised the rear wheel gear ratio to about 4:10 in first gear. It seriously launches now and havnt touched the engine. still have overdrive too. Then another things you can do it let your engine breath. Cars are very restrictive. A different air cleaner for example. For newer cars a fresh air intake can do wonders. for older cars just a better filter. Also the exhaust is really restictive. My Vette has the catalitic converter removed (illegal in most states unless the car is old) and dual exhaust.
Putting performance parts into the engine does nothing unless you build the rest of it to hold it (transmission, gears). And delivering more fuel that burns hotter doesnt do any good unless it has somwhere to go (better exhaust). After you build the foundation then you can start working on serious power mods. Super chargers, better intakes, bigger fuel delivery systems (carburators or throttle bodies).
I think I gave you more questions then answers but you really need to build the foundation.
How many cars are out there where someone bolted something on and it doesnt run any better and they got disapointed and forgot it?

Speed = money. How fast do you want to go?
Engines are air pumps. The more air you get in and out, the more power.
Cold air intakes, headers and cat back exhaust systems are some simple inexpensive things, but don't add a whole lot.
Nitrous, turbos, superchagers, etc are some more involved and cost more money, but give greater returns.
Depends on what kind of car and how much you want to spend?

Why worry? while you're taking away it in a 300 and sixty 5 days then get it serviced and wiped sparkling up. 330 sequence BMW are useful sufficient even while elderly, yet all autos respond to being appeared after. to boot in case you substitute your motor vehicle you will ultimately LOSE money on it once you sell it, as no person desires to purchase a none customary motor vehicle. Plus your coverage will substitute (boost) in case you pimp it and in case you do no longer declare it and characteristic an twist of fate opportunities are high you heavily isn't coated. As for the autos you're questioning of adjusting it with ffs why? None of them are any stable while they're style new, and you comprehend that any "useful" motor vehicle such as you assert could have been thrashed to interior an inch of that's existence and could be waiting for some destructive mug to come returned alongside and commerce his BMW against it in the previous realising he's offered a dogs of a motor vehicle which will by no ability end costing money just to run yet nevertheless smash the bank on coverage. Btw is it purely me or do the Maxima and the G37 purely prefer to be Mercedes lookalikes, the G35 replaced into designed after a inebriated night out (malicious program grotesque motor vehicle) and the stay sparkling of Charger is amazingly a sadness once you think approximately the mentality of the unique which even being from the united kingdom I relatively have owned a sixty 9 Charger (no longer common Lee the two lol I promise you it replaced into blue with white tail stripe). For a initiate the hot one has brakes! heavily however you sound such as you like to punch above your weight with autos. stick jointly with your BMW, tidy it up and shelter it and shop it customary OR do no longer do something that can't be undone in the previous merchandising it.

Two fairly inexpensive ways to add horsepower are cold air induction (K&N) and free flowing exhaust system. Magnaflow or Flowmaster. Both reasonable and can add up to about 20 hp. Going beyond that get you into the higher dollar range. The more you spend the more you get.

FIRST Dude u gotta list what kind of car you have to see if its even a reasonable thing to do, some things you can do is replace - headers, intake basically both of these things give your engine more air to breath, if your cars stick you can get a lighter flywheel for your clutch, get a full catback exhaust not the stupid bolt on ones. get a fuel managment system, if you want serious power you can always go turbo or supercharged

very simple. get a cold air intake, and new complete exhaust. if you have lots of money, at least 5,000, get new wheels and tires. That is the best way to go. nitrous is nice to have, but it is not needed in a car that you wont race in. If you want more in a car, do not get nitrous until you have a supercharger or a turbocharger.

from a stock engine is taking out the air baffle, adding a cold air intake, headers, and pullies..those are simple mods that will give you around 25-40 HP depending on what vehicle you have. if you get serious about moding your engine then there is heads ($1300 for 100HP), intake (upper and lower for $700 for about 35HP) bore and stroke the engine (anywhere from $500-$1500, depending if you do it yourself or not which adds anywhere from 50HP to 200HP, which also depends on what engine you have and what you stroke it to and how much you bore it out) and then finally adding power adders such as NOS, blowers, chargers..ranging from $500 bucks to $4000 giving you 50HP to over a 1000HP) there are infinite possiblities you can do to your engine to make it have more HP..have fun

It's hard telling without know what kind of car you have or whether it's even worth it. It is also hard to know what kind of price range you are looking at without knowing the car. Also maybe set out a price that you are not looking to exceed to start. Post up this info and I'm sure we can all help you out.
