I have a 99 f-150, I think ford has hade a great truck sence 78. I think all you need to worry about is finding one in the condition and with the features you want, mine is a 4X4 lariat with the 5.4 triton!!!! awesome truck 340,000 miles on a farm/hauler and she runs like new. BUT I have heard some bad things about the 4.6 V8s. in the 97-03 models, if you look in the 80's the straight 6 is unbeatable!!!

My personal opinion is to get one from 1988-1996 with the 4.9L (300 cubic inch) inline six. You can get them with a manual or an automatic transmission. These engines are darn near bullet proof, they aren't to bad on gas (at least 4x2 models and especially with the 5 speed manual trans.), and these were put in the plain Jane F-150's all the way to the up the line to the XLT's and Lariat's that are all optioned out. Ford made a ton of these and there a lot still out there. The later models when they changed the body style in 1997 drive nice and have a nice ride to them, but they dropped this engine. The guy I used to work for had a 1992 XLT and sold it with about 240,000 miles on it. The engine was still very quiet, didn't use any oil, and it never had any internal engine work. This is only one person's opinion, but if you are truly set on an F-150, these are the ones I would consider. Hope this helps.

The new F-150 is probably the best pick-up truck ever made. The thought and materials that went into its design are truly remarkable. I know many people that own Ford pick-ups and they would never own anything else. There is a reason why they are the best-selling truck in the world.
Go for the new one. You won't be disappointed.

i would stay away from ford f-150's since they are pick up trucks, they are not considered "cars" so they dont need to go through any safety or automotive tests. I would rather go with an suv or get a coupe since gas prices are sky rocketing.
But if u still want a pick up truck, go for a toyota tundra, or a nissan.

Before purchasing a truck, or just about anything, read Consumer Reports magazine. They independently test almost everything we buy, and give an objective report. The library has current copies, and back copies. It's worth it's weight in gold!
