why do muscle cars and even moded cars with not even that big of engines idle so loud.i love this powerful preformance sound.I want my truck to rumble under the hood like this.an example is like drag cars.alot of people have to wear ear plugs because they are so loud.is it because of headers?

Yes and the cam gives it the rumble Go way back and listen to a tuned 426 hemi you could count the revs -not so when you lit it up And loud we put a baffel pipe between the header and muffler when we opend them up you could hear them for miles in the Tenn. Mountains where i grew up
my car was a 71 Hemi Cuda BAD MF

If this is a true "muscle car", with a high-performance engine built in the 1960-1970s, having the original engine in the car has collector's interest and increases the overall value of the car (a 'matching numbers car'). In this case, it's best to rebuild the original engine. If it's one of the newer phony muscle cars, then it really doesn't matter. Go with a new crate engine that meets the original specs for exhaust emissions.

Basically is startes with your mufflers, headers may add a lil more sound, but thats for performance, if you look at the drag cars they are straights headers, but it would start with mufflers and headers if you wanna go faster!

Headers are louder than stock exhaust manifolds because they are thinner tubing instead of cast iron...car makers want quiet cars. And cold air intake will be louder than stock air cleaner..

Headers and/or mufflers make the rumbles you want to hear.
But headers aren't necessary...a good set of flo-master mufflers and VROOM VROOM..off to the races.
