After six months of no riding,I went to kickstart my'73 Honda XL 350.Well,after I turned the gas on the petcock...it overflowed out of the carb.So I tapped a few times on the float bowl and it must of did the trick becuase it stopped overflowing out of the carb. Then I went for a ride,It sputtered when I gave alot of throttle. So I found debris in the float bowl.I cleaned the tank put new fuel filter on and bought two cans of carb cleaner. Now I'm ready to clean the carb...should I just spray away...or is there a certain way to ensure complete cleaning?

I am picking up a new sportbike (Suzuki GSX-R) here in a couple weeks and I was wondering the average cost of motorcycle insurance per month (or year if you pay gross). The bike will be totally paid off when I purchase.
Thank you for your time,
Kevin
BTW: I am 25yrs old in Florida. It will be either a 600cc or 750cc.

repairing my 1985 700cc Honda Magna. It was in bad condition (previous owner(s) did a poor job of taking care of everything but the shiny gas tank) and I'm not very mechanically inclined so I let my local Honda moto dealer take care of it. Now I'm broke, its wintertime in Rochester, NY, and I purchased a Clymer manual for my Honda Magna. I read over the manual specifically looking at the clutch, tuneup, and recently the forks.

A lot of the repair and tuneup procedures look pretty difficult to someone like me who has no experience dealing with mechanical things (I'm a 21/m/NY college student studying Finance), and I don't want to mess with things (like some websites suggest) if there's a chance that I'll break/damage or not put something together right.

In summary, should I A) enroll in a motorcycle repair course after college? B) Hang out at local biker bars and try to befriend older men (no pun intended) who know how to repair their bikes? C) Mess with my bike and pray.

The one with the evil santa riding the sleigh driven by a bunch of Harleys delivering gifts to those on the naughty list? At the end it asks, "how bad have you been this year?". Its the coolest. Gives the true meaning of what being a real biker is all about. on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LphXHQMVS5w

I am looking to replace my 'good ole reliable' Ninja 250R with something that's more long distance-friendly. I am torn between Suzuki's V-Strom and SV650, and the Ninja 650R.

While I am leaning towards the V-Strom because of its ergonomics, I am wondering how these 3 bikes compare since dealers don't give 'test rides'.

I am not really looking for interstate riding, but since I have friends and family around central FL, where I live, I am looking for something that will be comfortable for the 50-100 mile ride range, which is something that I can't do comfortably on my Ninja 250R.

So in sum, I want a sporty-looking bike that can do both short and long trips comfortably, either by going solo, or with a passenger. How do these 3 bikes compare? Which one will satisfy my needs? Thank you!

Just curious to find out "how dangerous" riding a motorcycle is and what other things you can compare it to in terms of danger. Skydiving? Ocean Swimming? Russian Roulette?

I am told that in case I am riding at high speed with tubeless tire bike, it is more dengerous in case of puncture, than if I have ordinary tires with tube. Is this true?

I have ridden some technically pretty awful bikes, indeed I own a couple but in my mind any bike has its merits and is fun.

Motorcycling is a special thing and to my mind a true biker is one who appreciates all of them irresepctive of brand, country or origin, size, style etc.

You often hear people comment on a certain make or bike from a certain country as being better or worse than any other and they would not consider anything other than what they have. Well in my mind they are not bikers at all but basically phoney brand whor*es.
The morons who set fire to Japanese bikes for example are just bigots not bikers, so if you fall into the blinkered camp still answer if you want but don't expect to have much creedance put your opinion.

My question though is there any motorcycle out there that you simply would never sling your leg over or be seen dead on by your friends? If so why?
