Ok so you bought a bike from 1991 (17 years old!) that can't get out of it's own way, Handles like a beetle (have you ever seen one of those things try to fly through a doorway?), weighs about 750 pounds, and sounds like bad gas. And you think you got a good deal? HA someone really played you for the sap that you are.
"Wish I still had my old Beetle."- Firecracker you're one of the very few Harley people who manage to make occasional sense here but if you read what I wrote, you'd see I was talking about the poorly flying insect and not the car.

the 91 dyna sturgis was the first of a very good line of bikes. it is the first harley completely designed on a computer(cad). it did not have a belt primary though, the writer is thinking of the 1980-82 sturgis', they had a belt primary and final drive. they had some problems but they manage to still be found in high demand. the dyna eventually replaced the fxr in 1995. the fxr was a better handling bike, but the dyna isn't bad for what it is. the dyna went through many changes over the years. the frame was tweaked and made lower in 1996, and again in 1999. if you look at it next to an old (71 to 85) fx you will see many simularities. it was made to mimic the look of the original superglide but built with more modern technoligy. no harley is a superbike and none really tries to be one.
i still cannot understand why these superbike riding power rangers(notice how their leathers match their bike) continue to put h-d's down. their brands will never outlast a harley's longevity or demand. and notice that all those eastern brands have many copies of the original? there must be a lot of envy.
enjoy your dyna. i'm on my 2nd. had a new 96 and this one was a new 2001 fxdp police bike i bought off the showroom. both have reached over 33000 miles with nothing more than brakes, tires and oil changes.

the sturgis was one of a kind for one reason (that I can remember, there might be more).
Its the only bike (recently, since the 30's) that came out with a belt primary drive and chain final drive.
Congrats on the bike, you really scored a great bike.
Google the bike and you should find a lot of info on it.

That's a good buy and a cool bike, As far as I know it's mechanically like any other Dyna low rider.
It's distinguishing characteristics are the blacked out casting and special paint.

you could probably make a couple thousand reselling it.
3500 miles? or 35,000 ? if its 3500 it could still have the original 17 year old tires. you wont want to try any fast curves or hard breaking on those. better find out before you try it . you don't want to skin up that original paint job.

Nice price, I believe.
Next purchase (or Christmas present?) a set of manuals.
Wish I still had my old Beetle. Those thing were notorious for being able to go places.

sweet deal, congrats!
don't listen to these little squids that have a vinyl riding suit to match their little rice rocket... they're jealous that at 17 years old, their rice rockets are disposable and yours is set to appreciate in value.... and be 1 cool ride on top of it all
