.now we're deciding to try and reinforce it a little to make it stronger.its got an awesome exhaust on it.its a 2.2 liter but it sounds like a small v8.where are some of the weak points on this car that would need reinforced for small impact like bumpin trees.and the floor pan and frame.where are the weakpoints on the fram and floor pan.we only bought it for 100 dollars so if we destroy it we can haul it down the road a couple of miles to the junkyard and get 120 for it.anyways does anyone know of how to reinforce it a little for a woods car?any help will be great.thanks.

My wife and I have a great little Subaru Legacy we recently purchase from a family member. We gave it it's first tune up (expensive job, but I guess boxer engines are expensive to upkeep). It runs really sweet now. My question is, we noticed a smell of burning rubber coming from the heater vents when we stopped after driving 10-15 or more minutes on the hightway before the tune up. We asked the mechanic to check it out when we got the tune up and he reported that he ran it for an hour but never smelled anything. Now it's happening again! The mechanic did say that he had a problem getting some rubber caps off the spark plug heads or something since they had not been changed in many years. Could that be the answer to the smell problem? Could there be some residue of rubber still burning from them?

My child must still seat rear-facing (she is actually too tall for this, but the limits don't take height into consideration, only age & weight, which she is under). The center lap belt is too long - I may have an upholsterer shorten it - to firmly hold any child seat. We are currently using the Graco Snug Ride which kind of works in the car. We tried several convertable car seats, but ran into the same problem. The center belt (the receiver end) is too long & interferes with the locking part of the child seat. I purchased the anchor bolt from Subaru, but do not understand how to use it to fasten the child seat. Can anyone explain it to me? Has anyone else found a solution to this problem? Unfortunately, we are not financially able to simply go out & purchase a different vehicle at this time. I travel 23 miles one way to take my child to her caregiver's home & need her to be safe & secure. Thanks for your time!

I bought a chip off ebay, and im having difficulty finding the IAT. Its a 1997 Subaru Legacy GT, 2.5L. I've searched but i just cant seem to find it...any help or reference to another site would be awesome!

Note: vague answers will NOT help me, example:

"My hubby is a mechanic and he said to check on the side of the air cleaner....Hope this helps"

this helps not at all, ive searched around it already, im looking for a definative answer.

This intermittent problem is driving me nuts! I have taken this car to multiple mechanics. Each time, the problem seems fixed but then returns. Here are the repair facts... over the last 3 years (approximately 20,000 miles) I have replaced the following hoping to resolve this issue:

1. Solenoid
2. Fuel Filters (twice)
3. Fuel Pump
4. Spark Plugs and Wires
5. Alternator

The problem seems to be worse in the Winter & worse in cold, damp weather. Clears in Summer. The most common scenario is I will be traveling on the highway at speeds of 40 - 60 MPH on a straight, steep grade. Things go fine for a few seconds, then suddenly the car will shudder, the RPMs will drop, the car will start sputtering, shaking, lose power, lose speed, and sometimes die. Often times this is accompanied by a foul, odd odor from the exhaust system. If I pull over, and the engine dies (or I turn it off) I wait a few minutes and then can usually start the car and go again.

This returns each Winter. Help!

looking to purchase a good city car that is versatile in the snow and in the city. The WRX is a little out of my price range, given it seems that it is only a matter of horsepower. Is the RS suitable for trips to Tahoe! Thanks!

Im looking to purchase a WRX and was looking to see the differences between the power output of it and the STi. They are both 2.5 liter engines, and so I figured what could be contributing to the 60 or so hp difference? Is it just the turbo?

I will be in the middle of driving and the car will just go crazy first the stereo will shut off by it self, then the ABS and check engine light will go on.Then the speedometer and tacometer needles will go up and down, then the car starts to buck and it will just die out. I can't restart the car after, or even get the key out. I have had to have it towed to the auto mechinic for the thrid time and they can find nothing wrong with it.
Also after having the car towed sunday night because it stalled out again, when then mechanic got in the car this morning to see what was wrong with it. The car started right up like nothing was wrong. He thinks I am crazy!!! I really stuck the mechanic has had the car for a week and can find nothing wrong with it. Anyone have any suggestions
