should the altenator get so hot that you can't put your hand on it? It was going at idle for about 20 min. before I noticed. I dont know if the alternator is faulty or is there some sort of short causing it to overheat? Majority has suggested it the alternator but just wanted some thoughts on this. thanks.

I put in a new clutch (disc, throwout bearing, pressure plate, and pilot bearing) as well as a new flywheel. I have chatter and the clutch pedal seems bad. 1979 F150's have a long throw and if I adjust the pedal to put the engagement 1/2 way, the throwout bearing seems to hit the pressure plate body if you push to far. So I backed off the adjustment so this will not happen. I did not really change any shaft rod adjustments at the fork but this new clutch feels TOTALLY different than the old one.

For all 1997 Ford Explorer owners: have you experienced any problems (major or minor) with your 1997 ford explorer? I might be purchasing one soon and would appreciate any advice or warnings and overall impressions of the vehicle. Thank you.

This all started when I took the positive battery cable off first. The anti theft device started chirping and then, after changing the battery, it would not start. Tried reseting the computer via various instructions in my manual and the internet. Nothing worked. Had to get it towed to garage to reset the computer.
On the way home from picking the Explorer up from garage, I noticed that it would want to quit while at a red light. After a couple of days of this, it stopped doing that but started to idle high. At times it will idle fine but other times it will idle between 1200 and 1500 rpm. I thought for sure that it would be the idle control valve. I replaced it but it didn't do any good. Any ideas?? MAP sensor??
Thanks for any help.

All of a sudden I'm not getting fuel to the motor (6cyl). I'm thinking new pump or filter, but then I heard about a fuel cut off or inertia switch. That sounds like it could be my problem, but I can't find it to save my life (or my truck). I've read it's on the passenger side firewall in the cab, but I don't know what I'm looking for, and I can't see any spring loaded buttons to reset. Help!

A tonne is about 2,000 pounds right? Does that mean I can only haul up to 1,000 pounds since its a "half tonne truck"?

I need to haul some 1,400 pound round bales and need to know if it can take it.

I bought a used 2003 Ford Taurus July of 2006. It was AS IS, so I had to purchase the warranty at the time of signing the agreement. Two days later, the salesman calls me and says the bank didn't want to finance the warranty, so I had to come out of pocket. I had already put $1,000 down, and he wanted an additional $1,000 for the warranty. I said no.

Now six months later, the car is sounding, and acting like it wants to conk out, and die when I start/drive it. I took it to two mechanics: one estimate was $900, the other was over $3,000, and I can't afford to fix it. I owe over $11,000 on it, and the car isn't even worth that much. It has over 42,000 miles on it.

I have been to several dealerships to do a trade in, but no luck there because my credit score is too low, and I would need a co-signer.

What should I do?

I have a 91 Ford Escort that the battery went dead in, no problem right? I hooked up jumper cables (they are pretty old) and tried to jump it...I hooked it up to the running vehicle first then to the Escort, it threw sparks when I tried connecting it. I thought maybe I had them backwards for some reason, so I switched them...same thing, sparks still flew. So I was thinking that the jumper cables probably had a short in them or something since they were so old. I got another pair and tried them...I got the headlights to work, but nothing else...I looked in the fuse box under the hood and noticed that the "Main Fuse" (which is a 100 amp fuse) had blown. So I replaced that fuse with a new 100 amp fuse. The battery does not seem to be charging (I checked it with my multimeter...before charging it was at 0.02 volts and after charging for 10 minutes it was still at 0.02 volts even after revving up the running car)...plus, there are still sparks when I connect the jumper cables.

I have a 1992 ford aerostar minivan. About two months ago, it broke down. Mechanic said there was gas in the oil. He changed the spark plugs, fuel pump, oil and oil filter. it worked for two days when i got it back, and broke down for the same reason. same mechanic looked at it, and couldnt figure out what was wrong with it. I took it to a differant mechanic, and he changed some relays, it worked for about three days, but would sputter alot and stalled out several times. It finally broke down again, so we changed the computer in it....still doesnt work....does anybody have any ideas as to what this could be?
