NO, unless you want a cheap, unreliable, piece of junk that doesnt hold its value. Ford had more recalls last year than GM and DaimlerChrysler combined, and a big surprise to us all Toyota had the most recalls with Ford in second. You may want to look into the Saturn Vue or Honda CRV. Toyotas quality has been on a downfall since they became popular, Honda has stayed about the same, and GM has gone up. Saturn has transformed themselves from an inferior company to a high-quality dominator. Any one of their newer models (except the Relay) kills its competitors. The Saturn Vue also comes with a Honda engine, and will outlast anything Ford has. Test the Vue and CRV, and you will pick one of those.

If you're looking at an escape, try finding one that's 2-3 years old. Let someone else take the initial drop in value that happens in the first year and pick up a great deal.
It's not the greatest vehicle of all time, but they are pretty inexpensive compared to the competition. You might also check out the new Ford Edge, it's much better looking.
Personal rant: I don't understand the small suv category at all! Why build a tall sedan that just gets worse mileage without adding any extra seating or space! I looked at the escape, vue, cr-v, x-terra, matrix, etc a few years back. I ended up getting a Scion xB and am still loving it! 32+MPG, room to haul every household aplliance (i've done refrigerators, washers, ovens, you name it), and it's a nice comfy ride. Plus you don't have to deal with salesman bs - you just get what you want for the same great price as everybody else.

No, its a good small SUV, but they don't hold up well over time. If you are interested in one, then I would highly recommend the V6 that is offered. The 4 cylinder is just not powerful enough. The escape is also very top heavy and has a high center of gravity so you have to be careful if you are taking a turn hard. I would really recommend that you look around a little more before buying the escape. Its also helpful if you see someone who owns a car your interested in what they think of there car, most people will be upfront about anything they don't like or do like

I received a DVD on Fords and it compared all different kinds of parts on the vehicle with other makers of the same body style and you would be amazed at the difference of quality!!! Of you could see this movie, you would never drive anything ever again besides a Ford. They are great vehicles.
